    EGT Gauges

    Why do you need an EGT Gauge? The EGT (exhaust gas temperature) measures the temperature inside your engine that exceeds the limits of what a normal thermometer can do. This is important for turbocharged engines because even though your coolant temperatures and your oil temperatures are within range, exhaust gas temperatures could be super high, causing major damage. This scenario usually happens in long bouts of acceleration where you are constantly on boost such as a racing event, and your EGT temperatures are imperative to the welfare of your engine. 

    What effects exhaust gas temperatures? Elements such as increased boost pressure, or upgrades such as a larger turbocharger, injectors, or a completely modified exhaust system can either raise or lower the EGT's. EGT gauges can also be used as a tool to see how other modifications affect the vehicle such as an upgraded exhaust manifold, intake ducting, anything to do with turbocharged performance.
