Replaced VF48 5 years ago
5out of 5stars

I asked the Question WASTEGATE PORT CRACK. LOSS OF BOOST? Basically I was missing 6 psi from my target boost according to my cobb access port. They found a crack in the waste gate door on the exhaust side. I replaced the turbo and GOT MY 17.69 PSI (COBB STAGE 2) now!!! That was in 84 Degree weather, with a warm Intake temperature... VERY HAPPY! THANKS RSD!

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Q: vf48 turbo  george2 months ago

i have a 2012 wrx will this turbo bolt right up?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This will not be a direct bolt on to an OEM WRX as the STI uses a different style connection to the intercooler. You could use this turbo if you converted to an STI intercooler and y-pipe setup, or you could get a Process West intercooler with their traditional turbo upgrade hose.

  • Q: IHI VF48  cfletch1003 months ago

I have a 2002 wrx with a jdm ej207 v7 swapped into it. Stock motor, vf30, stock sti tmic, injectors. Perrin inlet, turboback exhaust, grimmspeed ebcs. Would this turbo be an upgrade option over the vf30 and are there any other things i would need to make it work?
  • Q: 2007 Subaru Legacy gt spec b   uskoslog0025 months ago

Will a vf48 turbo bolt right onto my car? Or do I need an adapter? My buddy is running one on his 05 LGT and I’m wondering if it will bolt onto mine or if I shud run a 18g
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The VF48 will bolt right up to the LGT uppipe and downpipe but the compressor outlet of the VF48 (and other turbos made for the STi) will not bolt up to the factory 05-09 LGT intercooler. Grimmspeed makes an adapter hose (#090060) that adapts STi turbos to their LGT top-mount intercooler; but, it will NOT work for the factory LGT intercooler. I don't know of an adapter for the factory LGT intercooler. I don't think bolting an upgraded turbo to a factory LGT intercooler would be a good idea anyway since: a) the factory intercoolers are known to come apart at higher boost levels, some at 17-18 psi (the plastic end-tanks separate from the aluminum core) and b) you wouldn't be able to take much advantage of the upgraded turbo without an upgraded intercooler (and downpipe). Another option to installing a VF48 or other STi turbo on a LGT (or any other car that came from the factory with a VF40, VF46 or VF52) is to get a factory or aftermarket STi intercooler (and y-pipe). This is a more expensive and involved route because it means you would also need an STi intake manifold (and probably fuel and vacuum lines), since the STi intercooler will not mate up to a LGT intake manifold.

  • Q: 05 legacy gt  05lgt8 months ago

Will this need other add-ons other then pump injectors and tune for a 05 legacy gt
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  You will most likely need intercooler piping and a turbo inlet as well. I would always speak with your tuner as they will know best and can let you know what else you may need for your vehicles.

A:  Get a VF52 instead. It's very similar to - and possibly the same as - the VF48 internally/power-wise but the VF52 has a LGT/OBXT/WRX turbo compressor outlet. The VF52 is a direct, bolt-on (minus tune) for the VF40 & VF46 used on the 05-09 LGT & OBXT. I very much advise getting an aftermarket, high-flowing downpipe first if you don't already have one. Since you have an 05, hopefully you have already replaced the turbo-destroying, OEM catted uppipe with an aftermarket cat-less uppipe. A VF48 will definitely NOT mate up to a LGT intercooler. The 05-09 LGT turbo compressor outlet bolts directly to the inlet of the intercooler; there is no "piping" between them. You would need an STi-style intercooler (and y-pipe). This means you would also need an STi intake manifold, since the STi intercooler will not mate up to a LGT intake manifold.

A:  Another option is to get a Grimmspeed LGT top-mount intercooler and their adapter hose (#090060) that adapts STi turbos (like the VF48) to their LGT top-mount intercooler. It would be a real good idea to upgrade the intercooler when you upgrade the turbo anyway. By the way, from the factory your LGT should already have the same 565 cc/min fuel injectors that the STi uses.

  • Q: Subaru Forester Turbo Swap  kiiiiim9 months ago

Good day! Would like to ask if the VF48 can be a drop-in turbo for the Subaru Forester XT SH / SJ? Or what parts do I need to modify to fit the VF48 to the Forester SH / SJ? Thank you very much!
    • 0 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This turbo will not work on an SJ FXT because they use a twin-scroll setup that is in a completely different location. You will need to get change your TMIC in order to run this turbo on an SH FXT.
