Description

The GrimmSpeed Uppipe is hands down one of the best uppipes on the market. This particular uppipe has larger diameter piping which allows fewer restrictions, and increased spool time.

Other features include a sleek black ceramic coated finish to help deflect heat, and decrease engine bay temperatures. The pipe itself is fabricated out of 304 stainless steel materials and has a pipe-wall thickness of 2.0mm. The inlet size is 1.93 inches, and the outlet size is 1.72 inches. This makes for a smooth transition and best air flow quality out of the turbo. Finally, a flex joint is added to help absorb any engine vibration.

New gaskets and hardware will be included to make this uppipe ready for the installation.

Works
NowItWrx 3 months ago
Looks awesome. Needed to clean the inside out - coating over spray? One or two pencil tip beads on welds by hose - did not file down - not too concerning. Mounts to VF52 cleanly as it should. Difficulty lining up with Killer B ELH. The ELH mated perfectly to OEM Up Pipe (14 WRX). Maybe I got a slightly rotated flex hose? Elbow greased them together but, will have to look at the tension on the felx hose by next oil change, other than that it performs as they say and I would buy another if it broke.

Stupid &$^*#%^&*#($^# stock up-pipe
Kent C. 10 months ago
I must have done something wrong when trying to replace my stock up-pipe and cross threaded the nut on it, because it became impossible to remove. I had to get out the dremel and cut the stupid thing off, and it took forever to get through. Fortunately, GrimmSpeed included new hardware and gaskets for this one, which made having to do that much more reassuring. And the new pipe? Amazing. You can hear the turbo spin up a little better, and even though it sits underneath where everything is all covered up, it still makes me smile every time I see it underneath my car.

Excellent

To summarize, I am very impressed. Fit and finish was spot on, installation was simple. No leaks, greatly improved spool time and no more worrying about a disintegrating pre-cat.

Great

I installed this with a bunch of other things on my 16sti. Install wasn't hard, my tmic was off and turbo heatsheild before I started this. If u jack the engine up you can get the old one off extremely easy. I installed many parts at once but I'm pretty sure this Uppipe makes a change to the exhaust note, particularly when you start rolling. Not bad or anything, kinda of raspy. Great quality product, I wish it was something you could see in the engine bay.

  • Q: EGT Bung  ScoobaSteve 8 days ago

    Answer

Does this up-pipe come with the 2.2k ohm 1/2 watt resistor to delete the Egt probe in stock up-pipes???

    • A: This up pipe will not come with a resistor.

  • Q: Different up-pipes.  StarryBoar 2 years ago

    Answer

So I am looking to install the Tomei Expreme Un-equal headers and from what I see this up-pipe is not compatible. Am I correct in assuming that? Thank you.

    • A: Tomei's header will include a specially designed up pipe for their header. This will not work with Tomei's up pipe, as theirs is designed with a 3 bolt flange.

  • Q: Tune  subytech niagara 2 years ago

    Answer

Hi im intreseted in purchasing this uppipe for my 04 sti with a stage 2 cobb tune and cobb down pipe. Will I need a new map to run this pipe? Does it require a tune?

    • A: An uppipe typically will not require a tune, but you may benefit slightly from one.

  • Q: From the turbo?  john.frey170546 2 years ago

    Answer

Am I high, or does an uppipe go from the manifold collector TO the turbo? According to the description: "This makes for a smooth transition and best air flow quality out of the turbo" I was under the impression that the only exhaust flowing "out of the turbo" went out the downpipe? I'm guessing that the different (and seemingly oddly specific) internal diameters are designed to create smooth transitions from the stock (but possibly ported) manifold, and to the (stock) turbo inlet?

    • A: The uppipe goes from the manifold to the turbocharger. The pipe aft the turbocharger is the downpipe. Internal diameters of exhaust increase volume and flow which can help reduce spool times and be more responsive, but on a stock manifold it will be very minimal. The primary use for aftermarket uppipes is a simple way to install an external wastegate or to get rid of the catalytic converter which Subaru installed in many early model 2002-2005 Subarus.

  • Q: Heat Wrap  Jives101 2 years ago

    Answer

If one wanted to heat wrap this uppipe, would you wrap over the flex joint or stop the wrap in front of the flex joint?

    • A: Typically with a coating, adding heat wrap is not necessary. But, in the case where you decide to wrap it I personally would recommend avoiding the flex joint and leaving it unwrapped.
