I ordered this item thinking that a longer throw might improve shifting. I was wrong. 1) This did not fit the Cobb knob that I had purchased at the same time. The threads were correct but the 'hex shape' below the threads was too large for the base of the knob and it would not screw on. The GrimmSpeed knob that I had did fit 2) The throw ended up feeling very good 'effort-wise' but the length of the throw (I can't remember if I had previously installed a short-shift kit) was just too far and caused my hand/arm to be too far back when shifting into 2nd/4th. After using it for about a week I decided I didn't care for it and replaced the GrimmSpeed 'Stubby' knob (which I hated because the bottom felt terrible when your hand wrapped around it) with the Cobb Delrin (round-ish, lightbulb shape) which feels wonderful and allows your hand/fingers to wrap around smothly.
With a weighted shift knob the 3 inch extension is awesome. You can really throw it in a gear.
So i got this to make it easier for me to shift while in track and some spirited driving in the canyons of Los Angeles. Didn't think much of it and was like why not get it since the price is really good for what it is. OMG does this simple yet clean product makes shifting so much easier while on track and less time for my hand to go from steering wheel to knob and back to wheel.
Makes precision shifting on track that much easier, fits with Tomei SS duracon knob
Fits on my 2017 Toyota 86 👍🏽

A: You either have really long fingers, or you kinda grip the lockout lever as you lift and pull back. It's a bit awkward at first, but you get used to it pretty quick. Thanks.

A: This is a great question. I run this extender on my personal car and have tried a few shift knobs on it before, and here is what's going on. See in the picture how there is the hex portion? That's so you can put a wrench on it and tighten it down to your stock shift lever. Seems like it would be a good idea, no? Well in some shift knobs, they have a pretty small bore that leads up to the threaded portion, and what happens is that as you go to install the knob, the big fat part(mentioned above) of this shift extender is physically larger in diameter than the bore hole in the shift knob so it physically won't fit. But for example, I run the Beatrush 5-speed shift knob, and it *almost* does not fit. Like I could feel the hex portion of the extender kinda grinding away material as I was threading the shift knob down. It all works, and the knob is installed, but it did require a bit of force and some cringing on my side as I basically forced my brand new knob on.. Anyway, long answer, but I hope that explains it. If not, I'll do a video on it. Just let me know :) Rick

Q: Stock STi Shifter Justin_sti5 years ago
I've already made the purchase for this and am waiting for it to arrive. How will this feel with the 2012 stock STi shifter? Will my throws feel longer? Or will it not be affected and it'll just be the same and feel higher?

A: Your throws will feel a bit longer, since the shift knob will sit higher and have to move slightly further between gears.
