  • Q: regarding fitment on a right hand drive car  MadSTI1 year ago

Hi im from Australia and was just wondering if this gates racing timing belt kit would fit a 2010 STI hatchback. any response would be much appreciated
  • Q: Standard vs Racing Timing Belt  01eggy102 years ago

I am putting new Brian Crower Single Spring/Titanium Retainer Kit and Valves. I am also upgrades the turbo, pistons, and connecting rods. Would the standard belt be good or should it be the Racing one? Also should I get new cams too or are the stocks okay?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Cams could never hurt to upgrade. Just ensure you know what all the different sizes mean because bigger doesn't necessarily mean better. As for the timing belt kit I prefer the standard over the race but would suggest reading on forums to which people have had more success with.

  • Q: Gates Timing Belt Kit w/ Water Pump  Crank pulley3 years ago

What is the difference between Gates Timing Belt Kit w/ Water Pump and this Gates Racing? Is it for different bhp usage? Thanks
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The difference is in the belt itself. The racing kit comes with a racing belt that is Kevlar backed so it is not as likely to split.

  • Q: What's the difference???  SubieMM3 years ago

What is the difference between this and TCKWP328BRB? Their parts are almost identical. According to Gates' website, TCKWP328BRB is the right one for 2.0L engine. I have Ej207 JDM spec engine.
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The difference between this and TCKWP328BRB, is that TCKWP328BRB includes a different water pump which is a unique design only for 2004 WRX models. In regards to the JDM EJ207, we cannot confirm any fitment for JDM vehicles.

  • Q: OEM vs Racing Kit  BuahahaSTI5 years ago

My question is, does it matter if I get the Gates Racing Timing Belt Kit for my timing belt? My car is stock but I would like this one in particular. An individual at Cobb told me I should get the OEM one because one of the parts in the racing kit is 3mm bigger/wider. Could this have a negative effect on my car?
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The racing belt is confirmed to fit without a problem and should not cause any troubles. The biggest advantage to the racing version over the OEM is a stronger timing belt less likely to skip a tooth or cause any issues in a high stress application. For a stock vehicle it is not required but it will not cause any negative effect.

  • Q: Belt slinging blue top coat   Cartel2666 years ago

I have heard people say that this belt tends to sling the blue top coat off once installed? Can you guys confirm that?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  It is fairly common for the blue coloring to transfer onto the timing pulleys, but that has not caused any issues from what we have seen.

What other thing like seals do I need to complete the install
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Nothing else is required when doing a timing belt, but it would not be a bad idea to change the crank and cam seals while you have everything removed. Some people also change the oil pump, but that is not necessary.

is it absolutely necessary it change the water pump when you do a timing belt?
