**UPDATE AFTER ABUSIVE USE*** PLEASE READ....ACT Xtreme Duty Performance on Stock horsepower/torque 2005 STI 3 months ago
    5out of 5stars

QUICK BACKSTORY: clutch installed at around APRIL 2017 @ approx. 115k miles~~ WITH JDM TRANSMISSION (lower 5th & 6th gear ratio) Clutch FAILURE occurred @ JANUARY 2019 @ 149k miles. There was a throw out bearing noise that began to progressively get worse (sounds like rod knock and goes away when clutch pedal is pressed in) near the failure point when my clutch splines GRENADED (see attached pictures) it started rattling even harder and sounded like rod knock. [Symptoms: EXCESSIVELY LOUD ROD KNOCK NOISE (VERY PRESENT WHEN CAR IS FACED DOWNHILL FOR SOME REASON)- GONE WHEN CLUTCH PEDAL IS PRESSED IN, GEAR SHIFTS PROGRESSIVELY BEGAN TO START GRINDING OUT OF NO WHERE EVEN WITH PEDAL FULLY PRESSED DOWN.] Now too the fun part: So basically I did a spirited cruise, had to end up double clutching to make it home. Next morning, literally no gear shifts available - could only put the car in gear with engine off and start it to move it around. I ended up frustrated that I spent "X" amount for this "heavy duty" performance clutch that should have handled the abuse no problems. Spent about 4 hours trying to separate the engine and transmission and obviously it would not separate based on the pictures and the video. I ended up hammering pry bars to separate the engine block & transmission far enough to loosen all 9 pressure plate bolts and the engine fell right out. NOW, I don't know why my splines look rounded off obviously this clutch cant take abuse from a motor making stock horse power because this time around I actually properly slipped the clutch @ 5500+ rpms for launches. Honestly very disappointing, Now I don't know if the JDM transmission splines are different from USDM or not, cannot verify that. I attached a picture with a stock OEM Exedy replacement clutch to show you guys the spline height to clutch height. Now this may or may not happen to your guys clutch - I honestly don't know what caused this problem aside from dumping the clutch in rainy conditions to launch it or spirited drivings or speed shifting gears or a couple drag races. Alls I want to do is give information to you before you make this purchase, cause if I had to do this again I probably would not buy this clutch. -- THE REPAIR> I attempted to use a puller--the pressure plate caved in severely so obviously that was a bust. I ended up using a M18 Milwaukee 4" cutting disc to basically cut out the front clutch disc, than cut out the pressure plate, than cut into the messed up spline portion until i could chisel it apart. I ACCIDENTALLY cut into my transmission splines, took off a small chunk but Im just ganna send it with the stock clutch - will probably update this if that causes another failure. Again, not ragging on ACT, but Im probably never going to purchase from this brand again. Very dissapointed. If any of you guys at RSD could figure out the cause/failure & update me that would be cool. Even made a youtube account just to post the video for your guys entertainment.

Very grabby, and lots of chatter.  5 months ago
    4out of 5stars

Installed this clutch along with ACT’s street light flywheel during my 6 speed swap. For starters, the engagement/grab of this clutch compared to a stock WRX clutch is extreme. This thing really grabs tight and fast. Next up is the chatter/shudder. I am getting quite a lot of chatter when releasing the clutch in normal street driving conditions. I’ve found that releasing at a bit higher rpm seems to smooth it out. But that’s not exactly idleal all the time. Also a sharp release doesn’t chatter either. I’m only around 250 miles on this clutch, so we will see if it gets any smoother as it breaks in. Will update if anything changes substantially.

ACT Xtreme Duty Performance on Stock horsepower/torque 2005 STI 7 months ago
    5out of 5stars

so i roasted the stock clutch from bad launches and decided to get this xtreme clutch disc for my "abusive driving" heres a detailed review. pedal feel is about 1.5-2x greater than the stock clutch engagement depending on how strong yo calves are. this thing definitely hooks hard to the point where you can feel the differential clunk in the rear and the entire drive train rattles pretty hard when you press in the clutch too fast at a first gear engagement (its normal dont worry about the noise). I've done alot of launches, not back to back cause i let it cool off now, but this thing has not slipped or failed at all. CONS: definitely dont use this if you got stock horse power or daily drive in stop and go traffic, it fk'ing sucks, alot. I would opt for the "act heavy duty" version, trust me. ALSO: use the OEM STI throw out bearing, this ACT one is garbage and has already failed at less than 10k-16k miles on it, it hasn't really blown up yet, but it sounds like rod knock at idle and it has only gotten worse and more louder.

One of the Best Full-Face Clutch Kits for 400+ WHP 1 year ago
    4out of 5stars

I have used ACT for a while and have had mixed results with the 5-speed kits on my WRX. When I wen to do a STI transmission swap I was still a little skeptical but chose this clutch anyways. Well the clutch has been awesome so far! I have put about 500 miles on it since the install and it hasn't given me any issues yet. I did the install myself and made sure to take my time and torque it all down correctly and it really paid off. I had almost 0 chatter during break in and now at 500 miles it is completely chatter-free. It drives as easy as any stock clutch with only a stiffer pedal IMHO. I am using this with the stock STI flywheel and it is great!

Excellent quality and fantastic performance!! 1 year ago
    5out of 5stars

The packaging to preserve quality was better than any I have ever seen before. Installs as any other clutch would. Pedal push is heavier than the stock clutch but not nearly as extreme as others have made it sound. I was actually concerned about the weight of the pedal and then pleasantly surprised.. I had some shuddering on engagement for the first 100 break in miles or so, but then it went away and engagements are smooth. I run a 485hp 460tq STI and it holds the power just fine.
