COBB Tuning Adjustable Short Throw Shifter

MODEL # COB 224315

  • Q: Never got a straight answer  B-Rye1 year ago

So I seem to never EVER get a straight answer from all the forums, COBB or anyone else. So I'll try here. To create the shortest throw possible do I lower or raise the height of the shifter? That's all I want to know. How do I make the shortest throw possible. Do I raise the shifter or lower it. Thanks
    • 2 of 2 people found the following answer helpful

A:  For this question we had to refer to the instructions per Cobb's insight. Please see below: If you want to adjust the throw (length of the distance from one gear to another) of the lever the lower portion needs to be adjusted. If you desire the shortest throw, you will want to have the lower section as long as possible. However there are space limitations in the chassis and shift linkage. If you go too long on the bottom section, the linkage will sandwich the rubber gasket in between the chassis and shift linkage. This can increase shift effort, causing you to not be able to go into first or third, and wear a hole in the rubber gasket. We usually set it so that there is the slightest amount of clearance so the throw can be as short as possible without causing issues. To see the height of the shift knob, simply adjust the top portion of the lever to what is comfortable for you. Again when tightening the clamp screws do not over tighten them.

  • Q: Sti ST or Cobb  Rextastic2 years ago

I have an 04 WRX with the factory sts. Does the Cobb sit lower than that?
  • Q: Want to make sure  Scoot4 years ago

Are you 100% sure this will fit in the 2007 forester 2.5 X?
  • Q: Kartboy or Cobb?  AsgardianWRX5 years ago

I am hearing a lot of mixed reviews from the community. Some saying Kartboy cause it is NOT adjustable and therefore more reliable. While the Cobb is adjustable and can sit lower than the Kartboy and if done right should be the best option. Any input?
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Both are excellent brands and we have many customers running both shifters without any problems. The majority of COBB users will set it and be done with it, but the option is always there if you want to raise or adjust the throw of the unit. The Kartboy has simplicity in it's design, but the COBB has a lot more options in terms of setup.

  • Q: Factory Short Throw   918WRX6 years ago

Is this compatible with the factory short throw option on a '13 WRX? I know the Perrin version specifically states that it isn't. Wasn't sure if this was a universal rule or manufacturer specific...
  • Q: Bottom Portion Length  subidoobidoo6 years ago

What would the best length for the bottom portion of the shifter to make sure its the shortest shift length without causing any problems?
    • 0 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The best way to set the throw to the shortest setting without causing any problems is to install the shifter without the shift boot and adjust it until the shifter almost makes contact with the shifter trim. If you set it too short, then the shifter will contact the shift trim and you can just back it off from that setting.

  • Q: Which set of bushings to buy..  Osirissk8rguy6 years ago

I was thinking of buying this, I just wanted to ask if it matters if I buy the Kartboy bushing set or the Cobb bushing set. They look to be exactly the same in the photos, but that's why I'm asking, to make sure and not just buy the wrong thing. Thanks
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  You can use either the Kartboy or Cobb shifter bushings with this short throw shifter. Both are great options and appear to be the same durometer so I don't think you'd necessarily see a difference between the two brands of bushings.

Will this short shifter fit a 2002- 2011 wrx or only 2011
    • 0 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This will only fit 2008+ WRX models since they use a different shifter setup than the 02-07 models.

  • Q: Shifter Height  christopher2676 years ago

What is the max and min height of the shifter?
    • 1 of 2 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The max height is almost as tall as stock, with about 1.5 of adjustability on the upper lever itself. The lower adjustment know also effects the height of the knob, but also effects the throw. So that will have some max and min adjustment range in it as well.

  • Q: Buying both sets of bushings?  Turb0Licious7 years ago

Is it ideal to buy both sets of bushings for the COBB Short Throw? The Shifter Bushings and the Rear Bushing?
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Yes, it is ideal to purchase and install both of the bushings at the same time. However, it is not required to purchase/install both at the same time.

  • Q: length  dippill129167 years ago

how much shorter than stock height of the shifter is this?
    • 1 of 2 people found the following answer helpful

A:  There is no definite answer to this. The Cobb shifter is interdependently height and throw adjustable. It has the ability to remain stock like height or the ability to drop it down quite a bit.
