These bushings are located in the shifter U-joint also refered to as a trunnion underneath the vehicle. These bushings clean up the side to side free play that is in the stock bushings to help prevent mis-shifts.

Worth The Nuisance Under the Car

Bushings are a great enhancement with or without a shifter change. I have the SPT short throw, SPT rear bushing and TIC linkage bushings. No NVH increase and no more side play. Really finished off the shifter upgrade well.

Great feel

I installed this together with Kartboy front and rear shifter bushings. The shifter feels crisp and accurate. The rubbery feeling is gone. I'm getting a bit more transmission whine, but I'm ok with that. Follow the factory service manual for easy removal of the cross joint.

Incredible bushings! SUPER super notchy and crisp shifts now. I no longer feel like im moving a stick in a bucket of sand shifting, plus these also reduced virtually all of my shifter side-to-side slop! If you're doing the front and rear bushings you MUST do these as well, I wish I installed mine sooner!

PITA install not really worth it IMHO. I got them as a beta tester and went through the drudgery of installing them... for what? More noise and rattling of the shifter into the passenger compartment. Made the shifter more notchy but it's not a feel that I like.

Will these work on an 01 Legacy?

    • A: These bushings are not confirmed to fit a 2001 Legacy. They may fit, but we cannot guarantee fitment.

I previously had steel shifter bushings in a VW R32 and I enjoyed the feel of that very much. When the car was in gear, it definitely eliminated the play that was present in the shifter. Just wondering if these do the same thing?

    • A: These will definitely tighten the shifter up and eliminate some of the side to side movement. The improvement will not be as drastic as upgrading to steel bushings, but it will be much tighter than stock.
