The bit suggested to drill for the rivnuts is too small. Needed a 1/4 bit to get them to fit snug. But after it’s all said and done it’s a great addition the the wing!!

I recently purchased this gurney flap to give my relatively stock exterior of my STI some flavor. The car is pushing 400 WHP and sure as hell does not look like it! When I was going through the list of included parts I realized that the screws that were needed to set the Riv Nuts into the plastic were missing. (Most likely a packaging issue) The instructions included are absolutely terrible and I don't recommend following them. I will provide a list of correct instructions below. 1) Lay out everything and make sure you have ALL the correct parts. 2) Lay masking tape onto the area where you will be drilling on the stock wing. 3) Have a friend hold the flap for you and make sure that it is centered. 4) Tape the flap so it stays centered while your friend holds it up. 5) Mark the drill points through the insert holes on the flap and make sure you bend the wing so it sits flush on the corners of the stock wing while doing so. (the instructions suggest to eyeball the holes using measurements, Considering the fact that you will be drilling 12 holes into the rear of your car, I highly recommend not doing this.) 6) Remove the flap and make sure the drill points sit dead center on the flat spot of the stock wing where the flap sits. 7) Measure the distance between the 2 drill points on either side of the brake light. Make sure it sits right at 11 3/8". 8) If it measures up you are ready to drill. The instructions say to use a 7/32 drill bit but this is way to small to fit the riv nuts in. I used a 1/4 inch bit and it fit the riv nuts diameter perfectly. Start with a small bit and work your way up. 9) Push riv nuts into holes. 10) Set the riv nuts using the supplied tools and screws. Make sure you use the gear shaped piece between the riv nut and the riv nut tool to keep the riv nut from spinning. The instructions don't mention this and it is imperative to a proper installation. Make sure you don't over tighten them because they are prone to strip very easily. The instructions suggest to tighten the bolt until it gets easy but at that point the threads will be stripped so tighten them carefully. 11) Once they are set properly you are ready to install the flap onto the car. There is a few millimeters of wiggle room in the inserts just incase your holes are a little off. Make sure it sits tight and check the screws and riv nuts regularly to make sure none of them have come loose. I hope this is helpful to anyone who is interested in buying this part or to anyone that needs help with the installation. Overall I am very happy with it and it looks awesome on the car. Its a pain to install but its worth it in the end. I highly recomend!

Installation is pretty straight forward, and it really helps two have another person for installation. The instructions called for a drill bit that was way too small, so measure the threaded insert and choose an appropriate drill bit that will allow the inserts to be pushed in with little force. Wash the car, or use some quick detailer to clean the area. Apply masking tape to the area to be drilled, and with one person holding the 'gurney flap' in the right place, mark locations of holes to be drilled. Start at the middle, drill a few holes, install inserts, and install screws to hold the flap in place before moving to the outer holes. The flap needs to twist a little to match the contour of the wing, so drilling the outermost holes correctly can be a little tricky. What I really don't like about this item is the 'Perrin' branding centered on both sides. It's printed on, and doesn't come off with alcohol. I didn't get this part for free, so I sure don't want to be advertising for them. I'll be sanding the logo off and having the 'gurney flap' painted gloss black.

Great product the only thing I have to complain about is the rivets they use. I was not a fan of those but if you practice and take your time they will come out good. I would suggest giving people at least 10 extra rivets for practice/messing up just to ensure they can install this flawlessly. Also I wish perrin would make a sticker tape of template instead of having you measure a bunch of times and risk the chance of drilling in the wrong spot. Luckily I measured correctly and everything went on smooth. I love how it looks , very subtle but gives it that extra bit of aggressiveness and function aswell.
