I recommend checking your pivot point width (the barrel with the aluminum insert and bushings which the linkage bolts into) on your stock shifter before install. This is recommended by Perrin as well. This will fit 36mm barrels, but not 30mm barrels. When attempting install on my 2004 Forester XT, which is listed for proper fitment, I found that my model has a 30mm wide stock barrel rather than a 36mm barrel as is present on the WRX. The Perrin adapter matches the 36mm sizing. I believe 30mm is the same width as the optional factory SHORT shifter on WRX/STI models, even though is NOT gold in color on the FXT as it is on the WRX/STI. That is why the adapter will not fit factory short shifter WRX/STIs, or what seem to be the stock 2004 FXT (maybe other years as well) linkages. Ultimately I ended up with a Kartboy RS Shift Lever. Both the RS and Kartboy XT Shifter are 30mm and will fit. The Kartboy XT is ~1in shorter than stock and the RS ~2 inches shorter. Shoutout to Tom at Kartboy who was super helpful and quick taking measurements for me. Measure twice and 'cut' once!

Got this one but turned out my shifter is thinner than the actual part so no good for me but keeping the bushings tho. Make sure you have a thick shifter otherwise won't fit.

I would say this has to be one of the easiest mods you can throw on your car. and only takes about 5-10 minutes if you can loosen a few nuts and bolts! I have my adjusted to the highest set point (shortest shift) and I love it!

This adapter is very well made and it works well, my only problem with it is the shifter sits a bit forward more than it was when its stock, so when it is as short as it goes fourth gear is about where neutral used to be, that and I never wanted a short throw shifter but now that I have one I want to go shorter and shorter throws.

I installed this over the weekend, and it really does shorten the throws nicely. No more searching for a gear, there is a nice notch feeling to each gear. I installed this without the bushings, because I wanted to see if the adapter really made any difference. I promise that it does. Also, I did not opt to bend the plate near the linkage, since I figured this was overkill. Instead I just moved the adapter to the highest possible setting without causing any linkage rubbing in 1st gear, so far no complaints.

A: That would be personal preference, this is nice for the price and the adjustability you get from it. The Kartboy has no adjustment but does decrease the throw a good amount.
