Q: Is this a 1-way or 2-way valve? subarman2 years ago
I bought this a long time ago, anticipating an eventual Mishimoto radiator to replace my stock one on a 2011 WRX. Now I see that Mishimoto radiators come with a 1.3 bar cap explicitly stated to be placed on the expansion tank by the turbo, and not on the radiator, citing that the OEM 1-way valve needs to be placed on the new radiator or overheating could occur. My question is, can I place this gauge cap on my Mishimoto radiator, and have another Mishimoto cap on the expansion tank, or will that still risk overheating? If you only have one high pressure cap on your coolant system, wouldn't that extra pressure be lost when you reuse the OEM cap on the radiator, thereby forfeiting any extra cooling performance gained from the higher pressure cap?

A: This is a replacement for an oem cap and not meant to be used on your mishimoto radiator or expansion tank.

A: Thanks for the quick response, Devan, but your answer doesn't make sense to me. You're saying that this cap is not meant to be used on either location (then where does it go?). If this is an OEM replacement cap, then wouldn't it be perfectly suitable to go on a Mishimoto radiator, since they apparently require an OEM style cap there while the Mishimoto cap packaged with the aftermarket radiator goes on the expansion tank? Also, do you care to speculate on the follow-up question of "wouldn't reusing an OEM low-pressure cap on the radiator forfeit any extra cooling performance gained from the high pressure cap on the expansion tank"?
