I regret getting this one. The major issue I had is with the overflow hole on the filler neck. On the 04 FXT you don't actually use this (there is a separate filler tank) so you are expected to plug the hole with a bolt they supply. Unfortunately there aren't many threads and it ended up leaking. I needed to get the car on the road so I ended up using some JB weld to get it to seal.

The radiator fits perfectly with no modifications. Although it is a bit wider than stock. After you install the fans back on there is not much room between the radiator and the belts. You can adjust the tension on the power steering belt without any issues. But the space between the AC belt and radiator is super tight. Make sure you have it adjusted properly before finishing the install. The only modification was on the radiator itself. The overflow nipple is screwed in by the installer. Since it is aluminum the threads are super delicate. Mine stripped out, so I had to use a tap and die set along with some JB Weld to make it a permanent fixture. Other than that it is a great looking and performing radiator. Just as a hint: It gets super hot on top. Be careful when working around it after the. Whichever had been ran.

The Mishimoto radiator has a much thicker core than stock, but this was a direct fit and I had no issues installing it. It really helped to have one person under the car to guide the studs into their mounting points, but the install was about as straight forward as could be. I bought the Mishimoto silicone radiator hoses along with this since I was already pulling it apart... OEM hoses appeared fine and probably could have been reused but I just replaced them, so I can't comment on fitment with this radiator. Note that with this radiator model on a 2004 Forester XT, you can either use the bolt provided to close off the hole coming out of the side of the main filler neck (be sure to check that it's threads aren't extending through the thickness of the aluminum as it will damage the radiator cap if you screw that on with the threads sticking into the neck (This problem may be resolved now, I didn't even check since I was planning to use the other fitting anyway). Some people have use a dremel or something similar to trim the length of threads as needed, if it's too long. Alternatively, you can use the extended fitting provided which had the perfect threaded length which didn't extend beyond the thickness of the aluminum. You can then buy a brass t-fitting to connect this piece to the hose running between the overflow bottle and the main coolant reservoir. This is my plan but I was still waiting to receive the t-fitting but needed to get the new radiator in as mine had been leaking for a couple weeks, so for now I just blocked that piece off with a bolt plugging the end of the hose and some clamps... works just fine and theoretically I could leave it like this with no issue.

About two months ago, I installed this along with the Mishimoto radiator hoses on my 07 Forester XT (4EAT - I had to add an external trans oil cooler, but it was easy), and it is BIG. The dimensions of the caps are the same, but the core is MUCH thicker - expect to not have a lot of wiggle room to replace your belts anymore. This thing is monstrous, and took much more fluid than the stock one, but I can imagine that it cools much better. Unfortunately, I didn't add a temp gauge, so it's hard to tell, but I have yet to have it overheat, even with running it a bit hard. A note - I did trim the upper radiator hose about 3/8" on either side because of the space taken up by the new fitment, but the Mishimoto hoses are awesome and a great add-on to this sweet radiator.

perfect fitment, great low price ,great craftmanship. the inlet and outlet on the rad are a tad bigger in diameter so your hose will be a tight fit ,a drop of oil will help. good time to change youre old hoses too and dont forget the thermosthat

I have a 2004 subaru forester XT automatic. I was wondering if this mishimoto radiator manual transmission will fit my automatic.

I installed a gauge and it seems to stay 190-200f after it warms up What is it meant to be?

A:  Hello, The temperature you are quoting seems normal, however, this would depend greatly on the thermostat you are running.

Does this 2 core radiator actually make your car run cooler? What is the benefit of switching from stock
      • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Yes, the 2 row Mishimoto radiator will be more efficient that the OEM unit you have now. Aluminum will dissipate heat much faster than plastic, which is known to retain heat. Also, after numerous heat cycles, the plastic starts to become brittle and will crack. The aluminum construction of the Mishimoto radiator will not crack over time.

A:  Your car will run at similar temps it just prevent any over heating issues when the car is under a lot of stress or heavy load. Another benefit is that it is a solid aluminium piece so you don't have to worry about any of the plastic housing on your OEM radiator cracking or breaking.
