Like the last reviewer, I ran into issues. . I had bought mine a long time ago and also wanted to bring this to everyone's attention as it may not seem obvious... This kit is for a stock STI... It will not work with equal length exhaust headers, which is what I and many track enthusiasts are running these days. I went through the installation and had to convert my kit to the WRX version. I have a solution below though, even made a YouTube video on it. 1.) Delete your OEM STI oil cooler first. Need the Mishimoto WRX oil cooler kit instead, otherwise sandwich adapter will not fit. Also, need Part #:15018AA090 and 8" of 1/2" diameter heater hose for the OEM oil cooler delete. 2.) Buy the WRX version of this kit instead. It will save you a huge headache. 3.) With the OEM STI oil cooler deleted, you will be able to easily install the WRX oil cooler kit instead. 4.) Enjoy performance on track and feel relief that the oil filter isn't touching the exhaust. I would like to see a big NOTE: THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS alert in the product description.
If you have either a front mount intercooler or equel length header, this kit WILL NOT fit. The location of the cooler is poorly designed, and had to make my own mounts and fittings to mount vertically like it should have been to start. I had to reclock the sandwich plate and re route the cooler lines over the header, and replace the fittings. The reason I find this ridiculous is because I don't know who would install an oil cooler and not already have an upgraded intercooler and/or header. Mishimoto should account for cars that have modifications, not just bone stock cars. All in all I had to spend $90 on fittings, and couple hours extra to fabricate my own kit essentially. However, I can say the core, fittings, and hoses are nice quality.

Q: Thermostat question rotaxmax33 years ago
Does the thermostat flow a small amount of oil through the cooler even before it opens so it doesn't suddenly put a lot of cold oil into the engine?

A: On a cold start your oil will be cold regardless. This will continually cycle oil through it.

Hi i would like to order this mishimoto thermostatic oil cooler for my 2012 sti. My concern is that, what are the differences between this and the non thermostatic mishimoto oil cooler kit? If so, are there any advantages between the thermostatic one to the non thermostatic one. Thanks

A: Thermostatic is better for a daily driven vehicle especially in colder climates. The thermostat opens as the vehicle warms up to help prevent against moisture build up in the oil lines.
