Features & Product Details

GrimmSpeed has provided a quality product that will eliminate the brake pedal flex in your vehicle. Some vehicles may have inherent master cylinder flex at the firewall which can take away from the feel and response of your brakes. The GrimmSpeed Master Cylinder Brace bolts up onto the chassis or firewall, and will fit in between the firewall and master cylinder providing.

The end result will be a solid brake feel, and better braking response, and all that excess pressure that otherwise, would be wasted in the firewall flex, will be used thoroughly in the braking system.

The GrimmSpeed Master Cylinder Brace has been crafted from CNC laser cut 12L14 with multi-point welded fabrication. This is a nuclear bomb surviving component with 5 factory mounting points, which is the most available from any brace. These are finished in a black powder-coated finish, and will restore that precision braking feeling

Finally got around to installing this - a little trick to solve the PITA tight space installation 2 months ago
iamfrozt
2013 STI Installation So, I purchased this probably 18 months ago. I've done a ton of other mods in the meantime and just seemed to look at this on my workbench and think to myself, nah maybe later after thinking about the nightmare review on how much of a PITA this would be for installation. I'll be real. It's tough, but with a few little tricks it's probably going to be considerably easier. I'll start with, my installation may actually have been a little bit tighter and harder to do because I have an aftermarket Fuel Pressure regulator, fuel pressure gauge, and stainless fuel lines in that general area that were using the legacy wire harness bracket for mounting. As a part of the directions, you obviously need to disconnect the wire harness and remove the bracket, giving you space to work. I couldn't do that with my SS lines, FPR, and gauge since they are larger and harder to manuever. The directions are great from Grimmspeed, and overall it's a pretty straight forward and easy installation, the hardest part is trying to get the first 3 small bolts installed into the chassis to mount up the brace, which is insanely tight and cramped where the master cylinder is located. After about 30 minutes of attempting to contort my hands and arms to try and hand thread those bolts in without dropping them and also lining the bracket up right, I thought there was probably an easier way. Super glue... Basically, the way that I solved the my hands aren't tiny enough problem is that I took my 10mm gear wrench, and the first of the bolts (the upper left they reference in the guide) and I put super glue around the head of the bolt and pushed it into the gear wrench closed end until it got tacky. Now I had a tool to use in order to position and get the first bolt installed without trying to figure out how to shrink my hand. I've also effectively shown that I can create and use tools better similar to my primate counterparts, so I effectively got bonus points for the day. The super glue was tacky enough to hold the bolt in place so that I could install it, but not too much that I couldn't easily break the wrench off afterward. The two lower left ones I was able to install by hand without much trouble and used the same flexible gear wrench to tighten, which helped in the tight spots. The wiring harness bracket went back in without issues. I ended up zip tying my lines and gauge/mounting block back to the wiring harness bracket (again unique build) and voila. The pedal feel is noticeably improved, and it's worth the money for the improvement. The reality is I think this should have been a factory installation because the terrible spot welds to the firewall are pathetic on our vehicles.

Does not fit the 08 wrx, not worth it.  6 months ago
bailey_ethan1104387
I had to swap a brake booster in my time attack car, so I decided while I had everything out, might as well put one of these on. The bracket i recieved did not fit the 08 wrx. Period. I don't know if it's poor machining or what, but it did not fit with the oem fuel line bracket. I wasn't going to do custom work to modify the bracket or the brace just to out this gimmicky part on.... not worth my time. I can say, I've felt one of these on my friends 2011 and the gain (nearly non existent) is not worth the time of fitting one in your car. End of story- don't fall for the gimmick and spend your money elsewhere.

Grimmspeed master cylinder brace on 13 sti 1 year ago

Re assembling the fuel lines onto oem plastic bracket does not fit. The position of the fuel line bracket changes to accommodate cylinder brace. I had to rig up a support so the fuel lines aren't loose. J don't feel much difference in brake pedal feel since install.

Work Great 2 years ago

As others have said it's a PIA to install. My only comment is to make sure you remove the top mount intercooler support bracket first, which gives you that oh so valuable working space. Also it fits and works with 09+ SH Forester XT

Take off your intercooler! 2 years ago
sjona201165097
Unless you have baby hands, save yourself some hassle and take your intercooler off. makes it exponentially easier to get the lower bolts in. Brake feel is much more solid now. Braided lines made it good, this made it even better! Install video is helpful, but expect to zip tie the fuel lines to keep them still. the plastic bracket that holds on to them can be re-installed, but there was no way it was getting clipped back into the metal bracket that holds it in place.

  • Q: Please Confirm Material  Ferny3 years ago

Can you please confirm the steel alloy that this brace is made from? Ledloy (12L14) is generally not suitable for applications requiring welding (high sulfur content causes the welds to have a habit of failing). Thanks.
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Grimmspeed was able to respond to this inquiry and we will be removing the 12L14 label. They mentioned the labeling was outdated and had not been altered for a few years. They are constructed out of mild steel and then powdercoated and they have not had any issues with weld failure.
