    QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

    • Q: Bore an unused block  Tim2 years ago

Will a cylinder hone still be required for a brand new block since they are standard bore?
    • Q: Machining required   Tim2 years ago

I just got a brand new block. Never been ran. Would I still need a cylinder hone to use these pistons?
    • Q: Compression Ratio Woes  2011_STI_KY2 years ago

From what I understand the factory compression for my EJ257 is 8.2:1 These pistons being 8.5:1, is there a way to reduce that ratio? i.e. thicker headgaskets?? I have a 2011 STI with W25 Heads I'm doing a rebuild and I'm shooting for essentially a more solid factory motor. No major changes, I don't have access to a tuner anywhere local so I want to be able to keep everything the same.

A:  You absolutely could run thicker gaskets to get the compression ratio back within spec. Now with that said, it is pretty tough to get it dead on to where it was out of the box, but you should be able to get close enough. There is an awesome spreadsheet out there, I think it's called the TWE compression calculator, it will allow you to put your info in, and you can find out what you would need in regards to a head gasket to get back to a stock ratio. Thanks!

From what I understand factory EJ257 compression is 8.2:1. These pistons advertise 8.5:1. Is there a suitable way to reduce that to the factory 8.2? Is it within a margin that the difference is negligible? I’m shooting for a solid built factory engine, so I would prefer to not have to source out a tuner for my engine rebuild (closest one I’ve found is 4+ hours away)
