This is the Grimmspeed top mount intercooler that has been designed to provide maximum cooling efficiency with minimal restriction. Grimmspeed understands that because the top mount intercooler design is more prone to heat soak, they developed a solution that delivers performance while reducing intercooler temperatures to help prevent pre-detonation or knock which allows for more power and performance.
Grimmspeed designed this intercooler with two unique end tanks. The first end tank accepts the hot air charge from the turbocharger and feeds the air into the intercooler core. The second end tank receives the cooled charged air from the core and delivers it into the throttle body. These end tanks are precision cast and machined, and the intercooler core will have a bypass valve flange that is milled flat and will come with stainless steel studs that are permanently installed to ensure that the aluminum threads don't become damaged. These end tanks are welded to a high-density bar and plate intercoolers before the entire assembly is pressure tested, cleaned and sealed just before shipment.
**The intercooler core will come in a black powder-coated finish for those of you who want the cleaner, streamlined stealth look in your engine bay.**
04-05 Forester XT requires an STI BOV and STI BOV recirculation hose.
WRX and Forester models will need OEM STI or GrimmSpeed Y-Pipe Kit

Fit like an old pair of jeans...from high school...20 years ago...when I was 170...now I'm 225... It looks amazing tho. My car seems to like it. The build quality is top notch as always from Grimmspeed.
Great intercooler took me about 25 minutes to install went and got a protune and all is gravy. Highly recommend it. Greatest part is it fit on my 2011 STi with the perrin strut brace. Win win!
This piece is so beautiful it almost should just sit in your living room mounted on the wall. The craftsmanship and engineering in this are amazing and you can tell when picking it up it is a very solid piece. It is by no means lightweight but it will make up for it in the power gain you get with the added flow and size along with moving to bar and plate. I chose to go with the black not only for the looks but because they have coated it will a Thermal Dispersant Coating to increase cooling capabilities. make sure if you are buying this interecooler to get a matching shroud to make sure all the air is going through the core and not around it. PS this also fit with my Carbing strut brace with no clearance issues. Thanks again Grimmspeed for making such a fantastic piece. Sean W.
I imported this intercooler from RallySportDirect to the UK in late 2014 (when we could get 1.6 of your $s to our one of our £s) along with a GS hood scoop splitter and a GS Y-pipe kit . Last month, my Bugeye '01 WRX Wagon dyno'd at 395bhp / 377lbs.ft (or 400ps in metric) of engine horsepower following supporting mods and a MAF-less tune. I like this intercooler because I didn't want a front mount and it means my engine bay, at first glance, still looks pretty stock. It idles smoothly and cleanly doesn't fluff in traffic and seems well up to the job. It appears to be capable of operating well above the range of my 380bhp-rated turbo. I would recommend this intercooler without hesitation. FYI: my supporting mods include: a Perrin CAIK and inlet pipe, an SC38 turbo (a Blouch 18G with a billet compressor), 3-port boost solenoid, TGV deletes, ID1000 injectors (probably overkill), ported wrapped headers, a 'trick' up-pipe and a catted 3" Miltek exhaust. This thing is beautiful. Its welds and quality are top notch. Will be running it on my 03 wrx with a vf48 and should be plenty of cooling.

Q: Re tune required? Rico861 year agoI was wondering if this needed to be pro tuned for install. Looking to replace my old one and want to buy this with an AOS but all depends if I need to spend money for a tune. Thanks
