This is the Grimmspeed Top Mount Intercooler Hood Scoop Splitter. The main intention of this component is to provide better air surface coverage to the top mount intercooler. Although the factory splitter is functional, there will always be room for improvement and Grimmspeed knows how to make the most out of your factory top mount intercooler.
If you purchased a vehicle that came with modifications, or if you plan on going down that path of modification, things like an upgraded exhaust, fuel injectors, larger turbo, basically anything else will push more heat through your top mount intercooler and you will experience heat soak beyond recovery. For example, if it's in the middle of summer and you're at the drag strip, it is not unusual to see air temperatures in excess of 400° entering your intercooler. For these reasons, people will typically upgrade to a larger top mount intercooler. But that's not always the right answer. Because if you're still employing the factory splitter setup then you are not getting optimal surface coverage.
Grimmspeed designed their splitter to increased the size of the opening by 70% which will work with an STI intercooler or a larger aftermarket top mount intercooler. Other features include redesigned vanes that direct air from your scoop down to the intercooler. Additionally, they have added features which include extra provisions that will allow up to 3 intercooler water sprayers to each splitter. These splitters have been CAD designed and have been tested with flow simulation prior to production. Extra air diversion vanes were added to the splitters where there was space to help evenly distribute the airflow.
Weight was also the focus on the Grimmspeed Splitter. Rather than stainless steel, Grimmspeed opted for 20 gauge 5052 aluminum materials which drops the weight by 300% when compared to other aftermarket splitters. Flathead rivets were employed to keep the splitter together which offer the same joint stability without the need for welding which you risk breaking welds or cracking. Each splitter will come with a custom designed extrusion gasket which has been made with the same EPDM rubber materials as the OEM gasket for quality assurance. The splitter will also come pre-punched for split-shanked rivets and then molded with a 15° flare to provide a great seal without the worry of failing adhesive or worn rubber.
This splitter has been powder-coated a nice black finish for extra protection against rust and corrosion and will come ready for the installation.

Used to upgrade my FXT intercooler to STI intercooler. The splitter fitment is right on and being able to use my factory hood scoop and upgrade later on his excellent. STI Intercooler is getting full air flow and feels cool to the touch
I had designed and made my own complete shroud like a month before this was released (the subtle shroud was the only available before that and it's price tag was quite hefty), and while I had no problems with the functionality or fit, I did have a few minor cosmetic things that would irk me every time I showed it up (admittedly, not many others would be as pick as me). But when this came out, it's price point was right on with what I wanted. It looks much cleaner than my own shroud, soft black finish, great looking Grimmspeed badge. Mounting up to the hood scoop was perfect, the bulb seal around the bottom was great. I especially like how the corners each had a portion cut out so that you could cut the seal on each corner and have it extend through the corner so you didn't have gaps (My picture does not show this, I first put the seal on in one piece and later trimmed it into the 4 sections). Because I have the grimmspeed 3mm phenolic spacers, I did have to trim the bottom. After first install, it put pressure on the hood and scoop when it was closed. This was done easily with tin snips thanks to it being made of aluminum. Ended up taking about 5mm off around the whole bottom and it's about perfect now.
Seriously, though. Just get it. It fits up perfectly with my GrimmSpeed intercooler, and looks fantastic under there as well. Two things I would advise you of, though - 1, it took me a minute to figure out how the rubber seal went on, but it was actually really easy; 2, because of the couple of points it secures, mine had a bit of a rattle on the hood to begin with. I remedied this by putting a little bit of peel-and-stick weatherstripping around the contact points it made with the hood - problem solved. (pardon the spotting in the photos, winter gets dirty in Utah)
