Features & Product Details

This is the Grimmspeed Top Mount Intercooler Hood Scoop Splitter. The main intention of this component is to provide better air surface coverage to the top mount intercooler. Although the factory splitter is functional, there will always be room for improvement and Grimmspeed knows how to make the most out of your factory top mount intercooler.

If you purchased a vehicle that came with modifications, or if you plan on going down that path of modification, things like an upgraded exhaust, fuel injectors, larger turbo, basically anything else will push more heat through your top mount intercooler and you will experience heat soak beyond recovery. For example, if it's in the middle of summer and you're at the drag strip, it is not unusual to see air temperatures in excess of 400° entering your intercooler. For these reasons, people will typically upgrade to a larger top mount intercooler. But that's not always the right answer. Because if you're still employing the factory splitter setup then you are not getting optimal surface coverage.

Grimmspeed designed their splitter to increased the size of the opening by 70% which will work with an STI intercooler or a larger aftermarket top mount intercooler. Other features include redesigned vanes that direct air from your scoop down to the intercooler. Additionally, they have added features which include extra provisions that will allow up to 3 intercooler water sprayers to each splitter. These splitters have been CAD designed and have been tested with flow simulation prior to production. Extra air diversion vanes were added to the splitters where there was space to help evenly distribute the airflow.

Weight was also the focus on the Grimmspeed Splitter. Rather than stainless steel, Grimmspeed opted for 20 gauge 5052 aluminum materials which drops the weight by 200% when compared to other aftermarket splitters. Flathead rivets were employed to keep the splitter together which offer the same joint stability without the need for welding which you risk breaking welds or cracking. Each splitter will come with a custom designed extrusion gasket which has been made with the same EPDM rubber materials as the OEM gasket for quality assurance. The splitter will also come pre-punched for split-shanked rivets and then molded with a 15° flare to provide a great seal without the worry of failing adhesive or worn rubber.

This splitter has been powder-coated a nice black finish for extra protection against rust and corrosion and will come ready for the installation.

Totally necessary to move to STI scoop 3 months ago
5out of 5stars

I got a STI style Mishimoto intercooler and needed this to take advantage of its full size. I paired it with a carbon fiber STI scoop I found from Taiwan and the fit is perfect and it all looks great together.

If upgrading your TMIC, I highly recommend purchasing this product. At first I thought it would be silly to get since my OEM one seemed just fine but after the very simple installation, I soon realized my OEM splitter wasn't sealing properly with my bigger TMIC. Quality is super! I feel much better knowing that my TMIC is getting all the airflow it possibly can

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Q: 04-04 wrx Grimmspped splitter  sa.drift880257 months ago

I just purchased this for my 04 wrx, that currently has an STI (wider intercooler) and does not seam to actual fill the size of the larger STI intercooler. These post/questions are misleading, is there a correct part for a stock wrx hood scoop with a larger STI intercooler?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  well to be fair this is designed to work with the Grimmspeed intercooler specifically. Now with that said, this should give you more airflow on your STI Intercooler over the factory splitter as the Grimmspeed intercooler is 17x6 where your stock intercooler was 16.5x6. The STI cores are wider and taller than the grimmspeed, so if you wanted a perfect fit, you would want to get the STI scoop and splitter, unless you're running the 08+ STI TMIC, then I don't know what you would do as that one is super wide. I'm not aware of any aftermarket splitter that are specific for the OE WRX scoop pair with the STI intercoolers. Hope this helps :)

  • Q: wrx hood scoop  Jon8986 years ago

I just received a sti tmic and I need a splitter. I'm probably going to change to sti hood scoop at some point but I wasn't thinking right away. Will this work if I change to a sti hood scoop as well work properly with the sti tmic because it sounds like it will from the description. Thanks guys

A:  This will work with the STI scoop but it wont take full advantage of it. The model specifically for the STI scoop has larger vanes to take full advantage of the larger opening. Mike
