On this page, you are looking at the IAG Performance Stage 3 Extreme EJ25 Subaru Closed Deck Short Block. This is a carefully blueprinted and assembled engine block designed to handle the perils of increased power and torque output. This is a brand-new engine with new Subaru 2.5L case halves with all the right guts machined and assembled with a Haas VF-4SS mill to accept the IAG Closed Deck inserts. Additionally, this particular Stage 3 Short Block will come drilled and tapped to accept larger 1/2" head studs to prevent the head from lifting under high-boost applications and O-ring receiver grooves for higher boost applications.

Here are the details:

  • Brand new Subaru OEM case halves converted to Closed Deck 
  • Unique inserts on the block feature small passages that allow needed coolant flow to the deck surface
  • Bored and honed to 99.75mm
  • IAG-Spec JE FSR 99.75mm 2618 forged pistons 
  • .180" chromoly wrist pins
  • Manley Turbo Tuff Tri-Beam connecting rods
  • ARP2000 Rod bolts
  • ACL Rod and Main Bearings
  • Standard new Subaru Nitride Treated 2017+ STI crankshaft
  • Standard FHI Subaru case bolts/main bolts
  • Block drilled and tapped to accept 1/2" head studs (not included)
  • O-Ring cut deck surface
  • Note: Compression ratio is subject to change based on cylinder heads and head gaskets used. 

  • 8.2:1 on B, V, and W cylinder heads (EJ257)
  • 8.5:1 on D cylinder heads (EJ255)

      Is this block suitable for daily driving?

        A:  This can be used for daily driving, but may be overkill. If you are planning to use stock heads, I would recommend the IAG Stage 2.5 shortblock (Part #IAGIAG-ENG-1252) because the Stage 3 block is tapped and drilled for larger head studs.

      With this installed, would it be required to have the vehicle tuned?

        A:  Technically it should not require a tune if you are keeping the compression ratio the same. However, if you're going with this bad mamma jamma, I assume you are pushing some pretty impressive numbers, and getting the car tuned once the engine is broken in could not only net you some extra power, but it could potentially make the engine more reliable as well. Just a thought. Let us know if you have any quesions!

        A:  I would take a look at the new Grimmspeed headgaskets, they are amazing and would be perfect for a build of this caliber :)

      Is it possible to run the stock heads on this block? Or is there any recommendation on anything that needs to be done to the heads

        A:  This can be used with the stock heads, but they will need to be machined to clear 1/2" head studs. In addition, once you start to reach the higher power levels that this block is intended for, you will want to look into aftermarket valves and springs, cams, head porting, etc.
