A:  We do not have a fitment confirmation for that turbocharger, you will want to confirm the hot side diameter like on the FAQ section of PTP's site to confirm the best fitment.

  • Q: Lava blanket blown turbo?  USMCForecon30675196 years ago

Have there been any reports of blown turbo due to running hot, the dealership is telling me my turbo blew cause the added heat, I know thats not the reason but just wondering if you had heard anything, thanks
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  We have not seen any, but it is always possible. It is always recommended with any turbo car to allow the car to idle and cool down after a hard run, this usually only takes a few minutes of idling for everything to come back down to normal temps, but I doubt the heat alone caused the failure, but it could be part of the reason. The most common failure we see is lack of proper oiling in the turbo, this could be caused by low oil pressure, blockage or crack in the oil lines, or where the oil gets too hot and shears which can cause the oil to not properly lubricate. We have also seen mechanical failures due to debris entering the turbo as well. The Blanket itself would not cause a failure, but rather a combination of factors could cause the failure. Running the proper oil, changing it frequently, and keeping the temperatures in check is the best thing you can do to prevent failure of any engine or turbo.

    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  I am sorry, are you asking about 2 different turbochargers? Our PTP Subaru Turbo Blanket will work for the DOM 3. For a 30r, you can use our T3 Turbo Blanket. http://www.rallysportdirect.com/PTP-Turbo-Blankets-FPRO35-008-05-Turbo-Blanket-T3-Lava

  • Q: Cooked Oil?  Drakien6 years ago

Would I have to worry about this cooking oil upon shut off due to heat retention? (Legacy VF40)
    • 7 of 7 people found the following answer helpful

A:  With a PTP turbo blanket, you get improved turbocharger performance and better engine bay heat protection, but you also have to be a little more responsible with the cool down process than you would with a factory setup. All turbocharger's cooling systems (either oil or oil and coolant) are designed to pull heat away from the turbocharger's bearings. The systems are designed to handle the dissipation of very high heat loads - much greater than your turbocharger would ever see, even with a turbo blanket. However, the cooling system is only effective while the engine is running (while the oil and/or coolant is circulating). The car's operator must allow the cooling system to do it's job to bring the turbocharger's temperature back down to normal levels after any period of aggressive driving. We recommend that you not shut off the engine directly after a hard run. We advise that you allow one to two minutes of cool down before killing the engine. You can either do this by waiting until that time has passed yourself or by installing a turbo timer.

  • Q: is that the correct product pictures?  combibug6 years ago

i thought the product look like blue or silver blanket ones but this one has lava rock material?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Quoted from PTP's site: With an outer layer made from actual pulverized volcanic lava rock (continuous-filament basalt) formed into fabric and woven into a tight mesh weave, these turbo blankets are internally insulated with high temperature calcium magnesium silicate wool, overlaid with a high temperature silica fabric for increased durability and for improved thermal resistance.

  • Q: why  chepaprios SubSTi6 years ago

why this is more expensive than the blue PTP Blanket ? and is it worth it ?
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This Lava blanket's outer layer is made from actual pulverized volcanic lava rock where as the other colors have a silicone impregnated fiberglass outer shell. The Lava blankets have a higher max heat rating.
