PTP Turbo Blankets Turbo Blanket Lava - Subaru Models (inc. 2002-2014 WRX / 2004+ STI)
Manufacturer Part # FPRO35-009-07
As low as $8,499.21
The PTP Turbo Blankets Lava Turbo Blanket is a great option to contain potentially excessive underhood engine temperatures. The heat created from your turbocharger can be harmful, especially to your intercooler due to heat soak. And if you ever get caught in a situation where traffic doesn’t move, or you’re waiting in line at the local autocross, the heat doesn’t have a real means of escaping so it will build right at the source of the turbocharger, and exhaust components which can cause heat soak.
The outer layer of the PTP Turbo Blanket is crafted from actual pulverized lava rock, and it is formed into the fabric, and then woven into a tight mesh weave. These are internally insulated with high-temperature calcium magnesium silicate wool, and overlaid with a high-temperature silica fabric for increased durability for improved thermal resistance. These turbo blankets are designed to withstand the harshest of conditions.
Overall by keeping the heat contained within the turbocharger, expect improved efficiency, and cooler underhood temperatures. Your intercooler and surrounding engine components will be protected from the heat, and more importantly, your intake will have a cooler air charge.
The PTP Turbo Blankets Turbo Blanket Lava will fit the majority of factory flat-four engine turbochargers.

Looks good easy to install

I have it installed for a few weeks now, it does seems to bring the under hook temp. down, weather start cooling down here in Las Vegas, so the real test comes next summer, some experience smoking after installation, I didn't see any at all, I guess the key is to make sure you don't get any dirt or on it like it saids on the instruction.
Wow, it's true what they say about it holding in that heat...

well, this might be a pretty little penny, but it you're interested in getting lower temps in your engine bay, this is one of the best ways to accomplish that. I'd heard elsewhere that "even after a drive, I could touch the heat shield"...but lo and behold, after installing it, it's true--after regular driving (no I wasn't blasting it and then popping the hood), I was able to pop the hood immediately after arriving home and then touching the OEM heat shield. Bear in mind, it's not cool enough that I would just leave my hand and palm there, but when touching the heat shield, it's be like yeah, "it's hot". I wouldn't even dream of doing this before the turbo blanket, as during similar conditions upon opening the hood, it'd be like Heat Waves shimmering off the turbo area--Scorching Hot heat shield YO!

Painful install on JDM STI
konascrap05 3 years ago
I have a 05 2.5rs with a full JDM v7 STI swap, gearbox and everything with he stock VF30. But to install the turbo had to be removed. There was no way at all to get this between the hotside and transmission, no where near enough gap. during reinstall the turbo will fight back more then when it came off because there is no more gap between the turbo and transmission. Product works well once on but I am keeping an eye one the pinch part of the blanket to see if there is any wearing over time.
The cherry on top

This is a beautifully constructed part. Went all out with the gold one to match my gold titanium wrapped Grimspeed up-pipe and cross pipe. Looks dope under my Cobb heat shield. Pricy, and certainly lower on the mod list IMHO.. When running this with the Cobb SF intake, Perrin turbo inlet pipe, and Perrin TMIC, the temp difference between the outside temp and my intake temp is usually +9-11 degrees. Considering these gasses have been heated in the engine bay and super heated in the turbo, I'd say that's pretty dang amazing. Part of that has to do with the turbo blanket, but more so the oversized intercooler, nevertheless, the blanket surely helps. Now planning to upgrade my radiator and hoses to protect the turbo during cool down from being over stressed by the heat. Oh yeah, don't put your hand on it or the heat shield, unless you want to get burned.. Things still get mighty hot under there. This blanket primarily reduces heat soak on the TMIC. Bottom line: if you have to ask how much this part is, you don't need it, get an oversized TMIC first (IMHO).

How would the fitment be over the FP 71HTA with the 58mm stock cover?
A: We do not have a fitment confirmation for that turbocharger, you will want to confirm the hot side diameter like on the FAQ section of PTP's site to confirm the best fitment.
