Features & Product Details

RallySport Direct proudly carries a great selection of quality upgrades and accessories brought to you by GrimmSpeed.

This is the Grimmspeed License Plate Relocation Kit. The main purpose of these is to position the license plate to the OEM tow hook provision. The front license plate can block airflow for those of you with a front mount intercooler setup, and it will additionally create better airflow to your radiator and AC condenser. This is a very durable unit and is crafted from laser cut from 5052 aluminum materials and has been powder-coated black for a clean look and extra protection against rust and corrosion. Also included is a tow hook adapter that is custom designed and CNC machined from 12L14 before getting treated with a black zinc finish.

DETAILS:

  • 5052 laser-cut aluminum construction
  • Powder-coated black
  • Most adjustability available on the market
  • Mounts in the OEM tow hook location
  • No cutting or drilling required
  • Simple stainless steel Allen key hardware included
  • Will not block the flow to your FMIC or radiator
  • Can be adjusted to not block your fog lights
  • Adjustments available for maximum air flow
  • Indestructible black zink coated 12L14 shaft
  •

    NOTE:

  • Because this item mounts using the OEM tow hook provision, the OEM front bumper beam will be required for the installation
  • With that said, FMIC kits that require the removal of the bumper beam will not work with this kit

Install: Use a flathead to pry the BOTTOM SIDE of the front bumper tow hook cover. Take that off and thread the big bolt in. Put some blue loctite (not provided) on it and you'll need a 17mm to install tightly. Kit comes with 2 spacers (well that's what I used them for). I used the spacers provided to push the license plate out a bit from the 'tow hook bolt'. If you are thinking that there might not be enough threads for 2 spacers...trust me, there is enough threads. The clearances on the front bumper with no spacer is tight but have angle to the plate, 1 spacer is okay with slight angle, and two spacers clear without sweating a bit at highway speeds. I went with the 2 spacers because I didn't want the license plate to be angled as much, as well as close to flush with the stock license plate holder. Recommended changes: The tow hook bolt could be an inch or two longer and GrimmSpeed could supply a little tube of blue loctite for the tow hook bolt and the two bolts that go into the adapter from the license plate. Other than those minor things, I'm very happy with the install and it looks good!

I own a 2005 wrx, unfortunately there was some drilling involved on the passenger side fog light cover but regardless i was very happy with this product. No need to worry about covering up your fog light as there are multiple angles you can set the kit to. Depending on what type of license plate cover you might have, it shouldn't be an issue mounting along with your license plate. I enjoy the offset look given and couldnt be happier with this product.

No doubt about it this is a good part to have for my car. the full adjustability is always nice so i can mix it up every once in a while and the quality is off the charts, 10/10 would buy again.

    • Q: What size is the bolt for the U-Bracket?  brettklynn477746 years ago

I'm thinking about adapting this to be able to remove the license plate and install a Tow Strap for track days. What size size is the bolt that attaches the U-bracket to the main shaft?
    • Q: Hole Saw Size?  brettklynn477747 years ago

I have a 2004 STI and will need to drill my foglight cover for this. What size is the main shaft? I want to know what size Hole-Saw to buy
    • Q: Front mount required beam removal!!!  tx07wrx100429 years ago

I bough this and kept hoping to get to use it with modification but no ideas yet. Have you guys heard anything on making this work for owners with cars in this situation. Maybe add on flange. I don't know, something? HOpe you guys can help point me in the right direction. I would love to get to use this product to its fullest.

A:  Hello, I'm sorry we don't have a solution for you. Its only intended install is to thread in to the bumper beams tow hook hole. Mike

A:  This relocation kit uses the stock tow hook mount in the factory bumper beam and if you don't have the stock bumper beam, then you would need to fabricate a bracket to hold the mount. I would inspect the factory mount and try to duplicate it the best you can.

    • Q: 2004 STi Fitment with Intercooler  fritzy9 years ago

Will this bolt on correctly with a front mount intercooler?
      • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  As long as you have the oem tow hook hole still present in the bumper beam it will work! Mike

A:  This uses the stock tow hook location in the bumper beam and as long as you retain the tow hook mount, this can be used with a FMIC.

Will I need to drill a hole on my passenger side fog light cover to properly install this?
      • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Your tow hook hole is behind your fog cover. You can either remove it completely or cut in to it to install this kit. Mike

A:  You can install it by either removing the fog light cover and running it without the cover or for a cleaner looking install you can drill a hole in your fog light cover right where the tow hook installs. We have done this on a few of our shop cars and it comes out looking very clean. Remember to measure twice and cut/drill once :)
