Re-drilled OEM injectors from a helpful company
mrsaturn708595851 1 month ago
This will probably get a little more in-depth than most people are interested in: I wasn't sure if these injectors used re-drilled OEM orifice plates or newly installed plates, so the first thing I did is inspect the plates of the injectors with an eye loupe to check the quality of the holes. The inspection quickly revealed they were re-drilled and somewhat rough in quality, however the holes appeared to be uniform in size/shape. Unfortunately, there were two additional downsides - the pintle head was visibly used as a drill stop and since a straight path was used for re-drilling, the OEM spray vectoring (parallel mirrored "D") was lost. All of this adds up to an inferior spray pattern when compared to OEM (and potential consistency issues in flow due to pintle head damage). (Images attached showing the differences between OEM and re-drilled plates) On the plus side, DW is good in providing flow matching data with the product, and has good (not great) additional data available via e-mail if you call the company. Data provided was a full chart of flow data @ 43.5 psi and 13.5 V as well as battery compensation data for various voltages and static pressures. Non-linear flow data in the small pulse width range was provided but was of limited use as the low pulse width range of testing data is in increments of 0.100 ms. Accurate injector modeling needs increments of 0.005-0.010 ms in these low ranges to be truly usable. This is a BIG DEAL when it comes to obtaining smooth idle in the low pulse width range on larger than OEM injectors. 850 cc vs. the old ~565 cc injectors should not be a huge problem, but had I gone with 1000-2000 cc injectors, the accuracy of the low pulse width range model becomes absolutely critical. The second downside to the data provided via e-mail was that the battery compensation table did not accurately align with the 13.5 V chart that was provided which made me wonder where the suggested battery compensations actually came from... it was close, but not close enough to be comfortable just plugging in values. All phone and e-mail conversations with DW were top-notch - absolutely zero complaints! Ratings broken down as follows: Performance - 5; giving the benefit of the doubt... I might not even install them based on the above. Ease of install - 5; I can't knock DW for Subaru making this a "1" job... seriously the injectors are terrible to replace on these engines. Value - 4; for the same price, there are competing brands that offer more data and better quality. Quality - 3; nowhere near the quality of a purpose-built injector designed by an OEM (Denso or otherwise) but compared to some real aftermarket junk I've seen, these are much better. If I choose not to install these injectors, I will likely purchase a different aftermarket set that will be sized at the OEM manufacturer's level (no re-drills) with only external changes made to fit into specific applications (machined spacers, etc.) and better flow data.

    Answer

Can I run e85 with theses fuel injectors or do I need a bigger size?

    • A: These injectors are compatible with E-85 fuel and the size of your injector will be dependent on your modifications and tune.

    Answer

Do I have to retune I have right know the td05h 16 g with 565 injectors But I wanna put a td05h 18 g what injectors to use? Will I gan more hp after ?

    • A: Injectors will require a new tune. The 18g is a larger turbocharger and will net you more power over the 16g.

    Answer

Hi i currently have a tune set for 870cc modified stock injectors. If i buy these to get a closer flow rate between all injectors would i need a re tune right away or would i be able to get away with just swaping for about a week before the retune? Or would detchworks recommend even flow testing the injectors i have now

    • A: These would require a tune immediately after installation to run properly.
