  • Q: 5W-30 or 10W-40?  taylor8223 years ago

I drive a semi built 2003 WRX and I live in Seattle, WA area where the weather is pretty mild all year minus a few summer months, would it be safe to run 10w40 or will it be too cold?

A:  I still recommend running 5W-30, but you shouldnt have any issues with 10W-40.

Anyone ever seen one for this oil? Just curious on how it looks afterwards.
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  It really depends how long the oil is used and what kind of wear and tear it has gone through while in the vehicle. I have had excellent results in the past, the oil was still relatively clean after 6000 miles both on track and off. A little burnt or darker than new but still clear and holding it's original lubrication properties to the best of my knowledge.

  • Q: Which oil?  Mattio2395 years ago

I have a 2008 sti with stage 2. I also live in Florida in regards to the warmer temperatures. What type of red line oil should I use? Seems like most use the 5W30. Thanks
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Subaru recommends 5W30, however most people will run a bit thicker oil in hot climates and thinner in cold climates. So for you in the summer a 10W30 might be better, and 5W30 in the cooler months of the year.

  • Q: 5w30 or 10w40  s20525xxx6 years ago

I live in australia, it's 35C during summer, 20C during winter. I heart Redline is a bit thicker than other brands. Which grade should I use? Thanks.
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  During hot months its a good idea to run 10W40 to keep the oil from breaking down. In the cooler months you can run 10W30, and if it starts getting around 0C go down to a 5W30

  • Q: best oil choice for my car/climate?  Fry6 years ago

2012 WRX STI, street use, occasional racing, i live in canada, +30 summers and winters can hit -50 but generally sit around -25 to -30.
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  If it gets that cold in the winters you might want to consider using a 0W30 in the winter, and then a 5W30 or 10W30 in the Summer.
