Features & Product Details

Custom Performance Engineering is very proud to release their redesigned EPDM (ethylenepropylenediene monomer) rubber engine mount for the MazdaSpeed3! CNC machined from a single piece of billet 6061-series aluminum; this mount is not only totally indestructible, but it also transmits far less NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) into the cabin than comparable mounts.

Their mount is unique compared to their competitors mounts both in form and in function. They have incorporated a unique method of holding the mount in the vehicle. Instead of placing all of the force on the center bushing pin, the load is distributed throughout the bushing with the CNC lathed aluminum spacers. This load distribution increases the effective stiffness of the bushing under engine loads allowing a lower durometer bushing to provide more stiffness.

cp-e™ goes a step further by using EPDM, a sort of rubber, bushing. Urethane begins to fail at temperatures as low as 200°F and generally the bushings need a higher durometer rating to hold together. The Speed3 rear motor mount is a perfect example of when not to use urethane. The location of the mount allows a large amount of heat to be transferred to the bushing. EPDM holds up to this heat, and doesn’t begin to break down and fail. EPDM has a higher density than urethane, so the bushing can have a lower durometer rating while keeping high reliability and support. Why is that good? Higher durometer ratings transfer vibrations through the vehicle and into the cabin, raising the NVH (noise, vibration, & harshness) value.

So what’s so special with the redesigned motor mount? They have taken the time to look over this design to improve it in a number of ways. First off, they now have a mount that fits two different vehicles. More importantly, they have reduced the material in the mount, making it slimmer and sleeker. The mount is now slimmer in each dimension and is able to retain the same strength and durability. Lastly, the supplied square nut is conveniently placed within the mount during installation in order to provide an easier install without sacrificing support and strength.

The first mod you should make! 4 years ago
5out of 5stars

I installed the 75A durometer rated RMM on my 2011 Mazda 3 2.5l hatchback a few weeks ago. I have over 1k+ miles driven on this mount. The instructions were very clear and concise. The hardware is of excellent quality. It took me 1.5 hrs to fully install the hardware. After driving 5 days, I reinspected and torqued the hardware per the instructions. For those of you who are looking to eliminate wheel hop and torque steer but hate the added NVH, get the 60A rated mount. The 75A rated mount has amplified NVH. The most extreme vibrations and harshness can be felt at near-idle speeds, especially when the AC is turned on. Even though I don’t mind the added NVH, it’s enough to cause my wife to be uncomfortable during acceleration after a complete stop.
