    • Q: 10:1 cr wow thats high  sirtigersalot602637 years ago

      I'm thinking of building a wrx for gas mileage, it may sound crazy but i won't bore you with my reasons, so lets just roll with this. The 10:1 compression ratio here is seems really high and i'm thinking its perfect for a hypermiler build. The wisecos in my sti are 9:1 I hadn't ever seen wrx/sti pistons with this high of a cr. I'm wondering what CPs intension for these pistons and their high cr is here, and what your thoughts are on using these high cr pistons for MPG thanks!

        A:  The reasoning behind the higher compression ratio is purely based on power. Going with a higher CR will help spool larger turbos faster and create more power per engine cycle. While going with a higher CR will help with MPG by about 5-6%, it was not intended to help fuel efficiency. Keep in mind that this higher CR will make your engine run hotter, so upgrading your cooling system is recommended if you havent already done so.

      Will these work if I'm just looking to replace my stock pistons for more reliability and stronger piston rings. I want a reliable piston/ring combo.

        A:  These are higher compression ratio then stock, and would require a custom tune. Also you never want to just drop in a piston on a new motor with out measuring,let along a used motor. Failure to take proper steps will cause issues with compression and blowby.
