I decided to pick up this intake for 2006 WRX, as I previously had the Perrin short-ram and intake temps were just too high for my liking, and it would very quickly become heatsoaked when not moving. What a huge difference. After letting it idle in my driveway for almost 20 minutes, my intake temps never got above 4 or 5 degrees above ambient. Install was pretty straightforward. I decided to remove my fender to make everything easier to access. A little tedious, but overall, very simple. Now, even though the description states a tune is not required, you definitely need to tune for any aftermarket intake for MAF scaling and A/F ratio purposes. I know a lot of people out there say that a CAI doesn't matter because the air is heated up due to the compression that takes place in the turbo, and is then cooled through an intercooler. While this is true, your IAT (intake air temperature) sensor is located within the MAF sensor, so, if your IATs are very high, it won't matter how efficient your intercooler is, your ECU will still pull timing when the temperature reaches 125+ degrees. So, for the purposes of ECU calibration, yes, a CAI intake definitely makes a huge difference. You won't ever pull timing with this thing. Do yourself a favor and learn from my mistakes, don't buy a short-ram intake, and pick up one of these. You'll be glad you did. I also purchased the AEM DryFlow filter cover to protect against dirt and water. So, if you're concerned about the location of the filter making it vulnerable to dirt and moisture, buy one of those covers and you'll have nothing to worry about.
good looking pipe with a gigantic filter attached to it. Does not fit with AVO's extended one piece silicone inlet. I had to modify the pipe by removing five inches of pipe post MAF location. Worked out nicely in the end. Still in break-in tune mode., however the MAF has been scaled in nicely and there appears not to be any abnormal turbulence created by the pipe modification.
I was looking for another intake that would fit my '06 FXT Limited because the Cobb SF is a bit too noisy for my tastes. This one fit just fine without any modifications or tweaks.
