Features & Product Details

If you're in the market for an affordable set of coilovers that won't break the bank, then the Tein Street Basis Z coilovers would make for a great option. These are ride height adjustable coilovers that will improve handling, performance, and the stance of your vehicle. These coilovers feature a sealed structure, in which Tein designed the body to have a narrow shell pipe to allow oil and gas to be injected, Then the body is then completely sealed.

Ride height can be adjusted by moving the lower spring seat either up, or down, making level adjustment simple and efficient. Additionally, the Street Basis Z coilovers utilize a twin-tube system which attains a longer stroke with a smaller repulsive force which provides better ride comfort. This design makes the coilover suitable for all kinds of road conditions which will make for smoother rides at lower speeds, while having more stability on higher speed levels.

With the Street Basis Z coilovers, users will re-use their OE upper mounts to complete installation, and these coilovers will come supplied with an optimal dust boot, no-sag springs, and the coilovers will come powder-coated in Tein's flagship green powder-coat finish for protection against corrosion.

Tein Street Basis Z Coilover First Impressions 1 month ago
This is going to be my first impressions of the Tein Street Basis Z Coilovers. These are installed on my 2006 Subaru Impreza Wagon, I've been looking for a set of entry level but quality coilovers for my wagon as it is my daily and I didn't want to break the bank right off the bat. So these seemed perfect. First Impressions: The coilovers themselves look and feel great, the fit and finish is really nice, especially for the price. My only minor gripe is that the adjustment wrenches for the bottom spring perches felt a little rough and didn't quite fit the adjustment perches very well, so if you're not careful you can accidentally slip the wrench off of the adjustment collar. Very minor, doesn't really detract from the product as a whole. Packaging was fantastic and everything was well organized and packaged. Installation: Installation for me personally was kind of a pain since my wagon has a load of rust everywhere, so all the bolts were seized and tough to break loose. Nothing against the product itself, but if you're working on a decade old car or older, just be warned lol (It cost me several adapters and one of my favorite breaker bars in the process). The actual installation of the coilovers was a breeze once the old struts were off. I'd say grab a buddy and you could easily knock it out within an hour or two. Pre-assembling the coilovers with stock top hats is fairly easy, but one tip that I found (from another reviewer on this site, actually) is to grab a pair of vice grips, some electrical tape and wrap the jaws in several layers of tape to cushion the teeth for when you clamp on the shock tube to prevent it from spinning when tightening down the top nut. I made sure to stop periodically and check the shock tube for any marks, no marks were found and it turned out great. Ride and/or Performance: Haven't had a real good chance to test them out but so far, the ride quality is very good, not super stiff as evident by the softer spring rates of only 280 lbs/in all around. Turning and handling feels tremendously better than stock, significantly less body roll and movement when making sharp turns or taking a corner fast, but there will still be a bit of body roll. Nothing that I'd personally mind, but if you're looking for the absolute best coilovers for handling, I'd say look elsewhere. Otherwise for a daily car or something just to have fun to throw around, these are perfect for me. The ride height drop is good, nothing crazy but definitely noticeable from stock ride height. With my settings, the rears dropped 1/4 of an inch and the fronts, 1.5 inches. It's a good height for daily driving and maybe even a little bit of dirt or gravel road driving (a lot of professional rally cars are lower, you'd be surprised). Overall: These coilovers are a pretty good option and bang-for-your-buck. I'd recommend these for anyone who is looking for a solid pair of coilovers for their daily or maybe even a car that they'd occasionally use for autocross or overall spirited driving. For first impressions, it's really good.

Really happy with these. Ride is a little rough but it feels better than the blown stock struts I had before. Handling is greatly improved car is 2" lower and looks fantastic. I don't track or rally the car so these were a no brainer for the price

Great product for the price. I love how much lower the car sits and it rides much stiffer. Big shout out to Tein and Rally soort direct for another great, easy to install product.

  • Q: adjusting to stock ride height?  marc8 months ago

can i adjust these to stock ride height? i only want about half an inch drop so is it possible to adjust these so there is little to no drop but still have good handling
    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  These will drop the vehicle 1.6" in front and 0.1" in the rear at their highest setting, and will not adjust to fully stock ride height.

Could a top hat from a different Tein coilover be used instead of OE top hat for these?

  • Q: Where are these manufactured?  NeatureWalker1 year ago

Hello, I know Tein is a Japan native company however i read that these are being manufactured in their new China plant? I realize you cannot always trust the interwebs. Can you confirm that these are in fact manufactured in Japan. Thank you.

A:  Great question! They are manufactured in Japan and then assembled in China. If you have any further questions then please let us know by calling 1-888-45-Rally or [email protected]
