  • Q: BFG BOV  Connor58 years ago

Ok, ive read some of these questions and i see you have said that this BOV does not require a tune. Is that 100 True, will there be any damage if ran without a tune? I see you can also fine tune the atmospheric pressure, will running it to high or low cause you car to perform differently in any way? (I have a stock turbo)
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  A blowoff valve does not require a tune. Running too much atmospheric bias will result in side effects like running rough at idle and rich spikes on shifts resulting in afterfires.

    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  You definitely don't need a tune. The ONLY time a BOV can affect the air/fuel ratio is when it vents to atmosphere, which only occurs when the throttle is closed and only for about 1 second. So the conditions where atmosphere-venting can affect the AFR are when the engine is not under load, and the ECU cuts off injectors after about 1 second on a trailing throttle anyway. It will definitely NOT cause the car to run rich under load, cruise, idle. Now, how much the BOV affects the car on closed throttle depends on how it is set up. Other valves only allow you to adjust the spring pre-load, but with the Respons you can also change how much air vents. If you find you get poor idle or backfire, you simply increase the spring pre-load or reduce the venting bias until the issue is sorted. It will not have any negative consequences, and will definitely not cause damage.

    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Need a bit more information to answer this - if you need an adaptor kit, I'd need to know what provision your FMIC kit has to mount the valve, i.e. what you're trying to adapt it onto. Is it a pipe, hose, flange, HKS, Greddy etc etc? The Respons valve is available in a range of different inlet and outlet configurations, it might be possible to use a different version depending on what your intercooler has. You can email me a photo of your kit if you like, and that will make it a lot easier to tell you what you need to fit it: brett @gfb.com.au

  • Q: Noise  cabucholtz9 years ago

I just installed this on my 13 sti. Its working great so far. RIght away i noticed it sounds like the turbo is alot louder. Is this a normal noise? Its during spool and when under boost it sounds like its the turbo. Just seeing if its normal. I checked all connections, screws, and hoses and everything is nice and tight.
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  The turbo noises should not be excessively louder after installation. If this is the case, please send in a video to [email protected] so that we can take a look at it to see if there could potentially be something else wrong.

    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  If the induction sound is louder during part throttle acceleration, this may be because the GFB valve stays shut at part throttle, where the factory valve is slightly open. This means with the GFB valve, during part throttle acceleration the turbo will actually making some boost pressure pre-throttle, which could account for the difference in sound. This is normal and is part of the reason why the GFB valve improves throttle response. If the sound is louder during full throttle acceleration/spool up, then as Spencer said, we'll need a video to hear the sound.

A:  This valve will definitely hold more boost than the stock valve (which is only good for about 20psi), and it will deliver better boost recovery on gearshift, so yes, it will out-perform the factory unit!

  • Q: Question about BOV  Perez9 years ago

I have been reading that 100% atmospheric BOV are not recommended for top mount intercoolers or stock STI,setting the BOV 50/50% atmospheric will it work properly on a stock STI?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  100% atmospheric can cause backfiring on vehicles with MAF sensors, including Subarus. 50/50% will reduce backfiring, but it is still possible. This valve can be set to any ratio that you would like and we recommend that you adjust the BOV and test drive the car until you find a setting that does not cause any backfiring.

    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  A stock STI from 2002-2007 is pretty accepting of atmosphere venting, compared to the later 2008-on models. We have successfully vented 100% to atmosphere on these cars, provided the spring pre-load is adjusted correctly. If the car is modified with an exhaust and HASN'T been tuned, it will be more likely to backfire, but in any case as Zach said, between the spring pre-load setting and the venting bias adjustment, you will definitely find a combination that gives you venting sound without causing backfiring.

  • Q: Bov setup  Stevveo9 years ago

Fairly new to the forced induction vehicles but my question is will this bov need to be set up for the appropriate amount of boost I'm running or is the only adjustment needed the recirculation/ atmospheric? I have 2013 wrx
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  You will want to adjust spring preload on this blowoff valve, which is pretty much standard on most aftermarket blowoff valve and definitely recommended. Besides that all you would need to adjust is the bias of atmospheric vs recirculating.

    • 1 of 1 people found the following answer helpful

A:  As Nick said, the spring does need to be adjusted for best performance, however this setting has nothing to do with boost pressure - it is actually the idle vacuum that the spring needs to be set to. The instructions have a step by step, but basically you need the piston to close before the revs drop to idle. If the idle dips or the car feels like it wants to stall, increase the pre-load until it idles smoothly, and this is pretty much the ideal setting. After that, you can adjust the amto/recirc venting.
