Features & Product Details
RallySport Direct is proud to add more appeal to your engine bay with the Grimmspeed Alternator Cover. Although your factory unit gets the job done and is functional, it is made from plastic and looks very bland in the engine bay. Grimmspeed's new asymmetric design mounts securely in place of where your factory cover was, and it just adds a nice touch to your engine bay providing the area with a more pronounced look.
This alternator cover has been crafted from quality aluminum materials and features laser cut vents that provide optimal cooling to the alternator, as well as drive-by-cable dimples that are hidden on the bottom face for those that need cable mounts. This particular alternator cover will come in a nice brushed stainless steel finish to add more appeal to the engine bay.
Grimspeed includes machined aluminum mounts, as well as the required hardware to make this alternator cover ready for the installation.
Please note Forester, Legacy, and Outbacks will require a purchase of an additional OEM Subaru bracket to ensure fitment. The bracket that is installed on those vehicles from the factory is not compatible with this Alternator Cover and a purchase of 23791AA002 bracket is required.

Lets face it the EJ series engine bay is not the best engine bay to look at. This helps hide the unsightly alternator and belts that do not need to bee seen at all times. This was actually quite the pain of install on my 2004 Forester XT because of the aftermarket Mishimoto radiator. Overall it is a great product with multiple colors to choose from. Keep up the good work Grimmspeed.
... thats about it. top surface is flat, so theres another place to place fluids and knock them over. it is also sturdy. ive taken naps on top it and i weigh about 190 (DISCLAIMER: not while the engine is running)
It's shiny. It's pretty. It's also a good way to keep those belts covered. The install process was fairly easy, but with my giant sausage fingers, it was a little rough making sure the nut sits in place to tighten the one side. Still, totally worth it for both the protection and the bling factor. One thing I would advise - if you are drive-by-cable and not drive-by-wire, make sure that you still route the cables OVER this - when trapped underneath, your spinning belts can eat into the cable covers, and that's enough to ruin anyone's day.
Super easy to install and looks great, esp. if you have other polished/brushed SS accents under hood. Fitment is spot on. Unfortunately, I have reverted back to my OEM cover bc I found that the GS part develops a slight vibration/buzz. Really only audible when standing in front of the car w/ the hood open, but just the fact that it was there was annoying enough to switch back to stock. Don't need any more NVH than there already is! I think the unpainted steel resonates the vibration, it seems like paint would absorb the slight buzz. I think it is also due to the fact that the GS cover is much larger than OEM,yet has one less mounting point. The absence of the rubber grommet that you remove to install this may also play a part. The mounting points are at the very front, leaving a good 5 or 6 in. of unsupported overhanging metal. When I put my hand on the cover the vibration stops. Everything was screwed in true and tight and nothing wrong with the product, it does it's job. I guess I'm just too anal about the way my STI sounds lol. If I were GS I would consider using hard rubber spacers instead of plastic ones, or even rubber bushings to use in conjunction with said plastic spacers. I definitely recommend the GrimmSpeed Alternator Cover, but if I could do it again I would order one of the colored ones with the hope that the added layer of paint would absorb the noise and vibration. Also, this is very reasonably priced compared to the likes of Perrin, Beatrush, etc. And now it's dropped more than $10 in price since I bought mine! RSD FTW!
