Features & Product Details

The Grimmspeed Air-Oil Separator (AOS) is one of RallySport Direct's highly sought after items. Grimspeed uses a unique patent pending design which allows you to maintain your PCV valve while separating oil from the air in both the heads and crankcase. These boxer engines have inherent issues with harmful oil and vapors getting into the intake system of your vehicle which can cause issues like having an effect on the octane rating with your gas, and after long periods of use and mileage can cause buildup on your valves.

This particular air-oil separator takes the place of an oil catch can, or a tank which is convenient to eliminate the need to empty the catch can. This is a subtle installation that replaces your factory oil filler cap.

New lines, fittings, and zip ties will be included to make this catch can system ready for the installation.

Note that this particular unit will come in the anodized red finish for protection against corrosion, and to add a nice touch to the theme of your engine bay.

product is sturdy and doesn't feel cheap. Love the look it gives when you pop your hood. Installation was kinda confusing and took me about 2 hrs to do but overall does it's job!

Good part installing it pretty difficult, and the instructions leave a bunch of important stuff out. I installed in about 3 hours just because each connector and hose was really hard to get on.

DON'T BUY IN AREAS OF SNOW 4 years ago
1out of 5stars

I purchased my AOS about a year ago and lived in NC where the weather never gets much colder than 32. Now i live in NY and I have nothing but problems with this AOS. It creates a milky residue that freezes in the lines and also PCV valve. I've been having issues with my car burning insane amounts of oil and blowing smoke out the back like a waazoo and this AOS is the problem. I had no issues in the warm temps but I highly do not advise on buying this if you'll be driving in cold temps. Product is worthless and only harmful to my car in the winter. Recommended buying IAG AOS if you live in colder climates.

Fairly straight forward and easy. All the hoses and fittings are of good quality and the AOS is very well made. Had a bit of an issue with the passenger side head tune but got it all to fit nicely. All in all pretty impressed and looking forward to no longer have oil going through my Intake.

Came with everything I needed. the instructions from grimspeed's website were somewhat hard to follow but accurate. Install took about 1.5 hours and I didn't use the zipties provided. (bought worm clamps 5/16" - 7/8" & 1/4-Inch-5/8-Inch Pack of 20) ALSO lube the ends of the connectors before trying to insert them into the tubes.... cut my hand trying to force it in without lube ... because I'm a genius.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

  • Q: efficiency  12WRX4 years ago

I'm curious as to how efficient this is. I couldn't find any design information for it and although i love the location of it i feel like it wouldnt be as efficient as a rectangular or cylinder model. Any info you can give me?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  It is quite efficient! It routes oil back into the oil feed tube just as any other AOS would.

  • Q: 2011-2014 WRX  parapd7 years ago

With a Perrin or another brand Turbo Intake tube installed, what would you do different with the PCV plug, and tube that runs from under the intake manifold? Any direction would help, considering buying this, however whats the different set up running the vacuum lines with the Turbo tube installed? Thanks
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  Installation will remain the same while using an aftermarket inlet. You will just have one less connection to remove and cap. Mike

  • Q: 2011 WRX Update  mattonio8 years ago

Having read the other reviews. Is this set up for the 2011 wrx with the 1/2 to 1/2 connector as others have said to do? Anything I would need to watch out for that's different from the video thats for 2008 models to my 2011 model?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  There are a few differences, but Grimmspeed has the detailed steps in their writeup for installing the air/oil separator in the link below. https://www.grimmspeed.com/install_guides/subaru_aos_08wrxLGT.pdf

A:  Hello, Yes this is the correct kit for your car. The installation will remain the same but there might be some minor differences in the appearance of valves at fittings. Installation should not be changed though. Mike

  • Q: fmic compatable?  philiec9 years ago

will this work with a fmic or will it need longer hoses
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This should work with a FMIC set up as long as your piping has the appropriate ports for routing the head breathers. You will also want to make sure your piping isn't touching your oil cap. Mike
