Features & Product Details

The Grimmspeed Air-Oil Separator (AOS) is one of RallySport Direct's highly sought after items. Grimspeed uses a unique patent pending design which allows you to maintain your PCV valve while separating oil from the air in both the heads and crankcase. These boxer engines have inherent issues with harmful oil and vapors getting into the intake system of your vehicle which can cause issues like having an effect on the octane rating with your gas, and after long periods of use and mileage can cause buildup on your valves.

This particular air-oil separator takes the place of an oil catch can, or a tank which is convenient to eliminate the need to empty the catch can. This is a subtle installation that replaces your factory oil filler cap.

New lines, fittings, and zip ties will be included to make this catch can system ready for the installation.

Note that this particular unit will come in the anodized blue finish for protection against corrosion, and to add a nice touch to the theme of your engine bay.

DON'T purchase if you TRACK / AUTOCROSS 3 years ago
johnny19298230
Originally purchased this item to do its intended job on my 04 STI weekend warrior that I daily, track, and auto cross. I had to return it. There are many recent reviews on NASOIC and related sites that oil actually comes back up through the return line under constant heavy lateral G's and can drown the AOS in oil when installed on our cars that autocross and race on certain track configurations. GrimmSpeed confirmed this product is for daily driving and quarter miler runs, and they are aware that it is a common occurring problem that these products fail in autocross and track conditions (constant heavy lateral Gs (which is why they are designing a Version2 now to solve this issue)) yet they this isn't mentioned anywhere on this site. I stand by GrimmSpeed products to be TOP OF THE LINE for quality and reliability, and I imagine this product works great for daily driving. 5 Stars for daily driving only. However, if you think you will be putting your car under heavy constant lateral Gs, this product probably isn't for you!!

This product has just failed on me,while travelling on the expressway I noticed smoke coming out from my exhaust and I stopped on the shoulder immediately, opened the hood only to find out oil everywhere in my engine bay. The culprit was the o ring of this Air oil separator. Just imagine the hassle of waiting for a tow truck at 12noon with your kids on the expressway.hassle! You have been warned. The

  • Q: Water in oil  tyloryantis5 years ago

I see people clean there catch cans and it seems milky looking with this is the milky looking oil going back into the engine if so that can't be good
    • 1 of 2 people found the following answer helpful

A:  This is a normal mix of condensation and oil that becomes prevalent in cool climates. While it is best to have it removed from the system it will fully evaporate as the motor gets up to operating temperatures. Mike

  • Q: Aos  Christianyount177645 years ago

Is this as effective as an oil catch can?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  They both have their perks. For a track car we recommend a catch can. If the car is a daily driver the AOS will work great! Mike

A:  To a degree it would serve the same function in that it will separate the oil vapors from the air, but it will not store the oil in a catch can, instead it will drop the oil back into the oil pan. Thanks.

Can you run this and a catch can at the same time?
    • 0 of 0 people found the following answer helpful

A:  If you would like you can. It would require custom routing of one or the other as they can interfere with each other.
