Bought this for my 2011 WRX and so far I have been very happy. There is a documented increase in both HP and TQ for those of you wondering so it is worth the buy. It sits far down in the front wheel well so it grabs truly cold air. The one thing I noticed right away was when I did pulls or got after it just normally driving, my stock air system would seem to sputter and not pull air properly but since purchasing this intake the sputtering has gone away and now everything is super clean with no air disturbances. Very happy and would buy again.
I live in a tropical climate with ambient temperature range between 75℉ to 95℉. My car is 2011 Subaru WRX STi and my previous build used this intake along with the stock turbo. I kept my fog lamp and it most likely hinder fresh air to the intake. My IAT was around 130℉ - 180℉. I recently upgraded the turbo to BPT 1.5XT-R and revert back the intake to stock intake and my IAT improved to 110℉-160℉ and saw noticable gain in the low RPMs. AFAIK the stock intake is sufficient up until 400hp and would not recommend this product unless you upgrade your turbo bigger than TD06-20G
I ordered this to go along with the archived stage 1 maps for my 2010 WRX Sedan to help deal with the summer heat and to give me a little extra kick in the pants off the line, plus who doesn't love a little extra turbo noise under the hood? Assembly was relatively easy, as the intake was simple to put together and removing the stock intake was trivial. However, the engine bay was tight and getting this to fit in was an undertaking that took a couple shots. Once in, hooking it up went smooth, One tip was to fit the silicone coupler on the turbo intake tube before sliding it on the CAI pipe, which is what I did and made it a little easier to install. All in all, I give it 4 stars. That final install was just a killer for me
This product definitely opens up what was hiding in your engine all along. If you go from stock to this, plus a Cobb Accessport (AEM archived map available only up to Stage 2) you'll definitely feel your power gains. The sounds are amazing as well. Easy straight-forward install. AEM is top quality all around. Highly recommend.
I have the COBB access port and have been monitoring my inlet temperatures for a while now. I also used to own the COBB "cold air" intake as well. This intake has a much better design than the COBB intake in that it routes the filter into the wheel well and does a pretty decent job of sealing away from the engine. At cruising speeds the temps tend to say around 10° - 12° above ambient and then at stop and go traffic will jump up a bit to 15° to 20 ° above ambient. In comparison to the COBB intake, the temps would stay 2° to 3° cooler at cruising but jump up 40° to 50° above ambient in stop and go traffic. In summary, I believe that this intake keeps the temperature pretty consistent with ambient but due to the lack of airflow in the wheel well the temps tend to be slightly higher at cruising than the stock intake and the COBB intake due to their use of the factory snorkel. I might try drilling out the holes in the grill piece of the front bumper to let more air into the wheel well - will update if i do.
