Subaru Models (inc. 2002+ WRX / STI)
Features & Product Details
RallySport Direct now carries a great selection of quality engineered performance upgrades brought to you by Faction Fab.
Here, you are looking at the Faction Fab Subaru Pitch Stop Mount. The pitch stop is designed to reduce front-to-back engine movement under acceleration and braking. In order to achieve maximum comfort, the factory unit is made out of compliant and flexible materials that will not hold the engine as steady as possible.
The Faction Fab Billet Aluminum Pitch Stop features a unique design that eliminates front-to-back engine movement while eliminating the undesirable torsional firewall deflection that can contribute to firewall mount failure. This unique design features a spherical bearing that allows for up to 20° of combined torsional deflection before any stress is transferred to the firewall. This is especially critical on vehicles that are prone to firewall failure.
Additional to the unique design of the spherical bearing, the pitch stop mount uses a vacuum cast 95A durometer urethane bushing to practically eliminate any front-to-back movement. When this is combined with a billet 6061-T6 mount, the result is the ultimate pitch stop mount for any Subaru enthusiast.

It really makes a rattling noise from the spherical bearing. I removed it right away and I hope to return it or exchange it. No bueno.
2015 WRX - super easy to install, just remove intercooler and there it is with plenty of room to work. I can't compare this to other pitch stop mounts or be too specific about its effect since I also replaced engine and transmission mounts at the same time, but I'm confident that this is the piece that transfers a LOT of noise and some vibration to the cabin. Especially the starter sounds like it's playing through your speakers. Tightens up the whole feel of the car pretty well, at least when paired with other mounts. I feel like the spherical bearing adds a small degree of additional safety, but if you have a WRX that was subject to the firewall breaking I would suggest sucking it up and buying the Perrin Pitch Stop Mount Brace as well for insurance unless you want Subaru to have to rebuild your firewall. 5 stars because I can't fault it, and it's also one of the cheaper ones.
You'll feel the difference in shifts. The car does not rock as much, it all feels like it's one big piece and it just flows well together. It's hard to describe. Shifts feel smoother, I grind less in 4th, the car rocks less. Everyone should get a better pitch stop mount, but the FactionFab one depends on your tolerance for noise. I too got this because I heard about the firewall mount being ripped off on some cars and figured the rotating ball mount would help with that. Unfortunately, you will get a fair amount of noise with this mount due to the metal ball joint (or at least I hope it is this mount causing the noise). I got a light constant grinding noise after install that I wasn't hearing before I installed this. Grinding noises are scary, so I actually took it too the shop, but they said it was likely this mount since everything else checked out. Since I'm not putting out that much power on my build, I probably should have just gone with a softer poly mount. Install was easy, but getting the intercooler back on was a PITA due to the pipe underneath it. I literally tried for 2 hours before giving up. I wanted to throw the thing into the middle of the street I was so frustrated. You may just want to buy a new hoses for it if you've got an older car like I did. I went with Grimmspeeds hoses, trimmed it to the right size, and it went slipped right back on. The rubber grommets on the TMIC may be wearing out, too, so these aren't bad to replace either. 5 stars for quality. It's a nice piece. Your tolerance for noise will be your deciding factor on whether it was worth it or not, though.
Installation is not too difficult if you are comfortable removing your top mount intercooler and putting it back (a bit of a chore to get it back into the charge pipe). I have driven only a little and it does seem to improve the shifter feel. I am sure I will notice it more during increased G-force driving. I like the idea of the pivot ball bearing on the engine side to allow some rotation without hurting the firewall mount, however, it is metal on metal as a result. I suggest unplugging the wire harness that is directly in front of the nut on the engine to give more space. Torque specs are 43 ft-lbs at the firewall and 37 ft-lbs on the engine. The only downside is that this thing works like a tuning fork and transmits the engine noise directly into the firewall and the car cabin. As the other reviewer indicated the starter is now very loud when turning on the car. I am looking into seeing if there are any polyurethane washers that I can purchase for the engine side bolt to see if those sounds can be dampened because they are loud.
After a tune and new clutch install it was definitely time to upgrade the pitch mount! Went with the faction fab because of the swivel mount after seeing photos and stories of the mount on the firewall breaking it feels like extra leeway to keep it from happening to me. Install was pretty easy and shifting feels way better out of second! Other than hearing the starter like it’s on top of your dash it’s a great investment.
