The Most Expensive Products We Carry (& Why The Heck you Should Buy Them)
This article is all in fun. The website can be overwhelming with a sea of aftermarket performance upgrades, however, to pass the time, sometimes we like to window shop for the most expensive and ridiculous items on our website. With building a race car, you can spend well deep into the 6-figures on a build. The engine, transmission, suspension, interior and exterior all add up. So, if your pockets ain’t empty cuh, let’s have a little look at some of our more expensive mods. Now these upgrades are in no particular order as we randomly select these items based on their price tag.
HKS 2.5L FA24 High Comp Step 2 Stroker Kit 2022-2024 BRZ/GR86 $13,000
This is for those of you who are adding forced induction such as a turbo kit, or a supercharger kit. The naturally aspirated 2.4L engine came from the factory with 230 HP, and never was intended to make larger horsepower numbers. Yet, there are those of you who simply must have more power. The OEM short block won’t be able to handle it. Now $13,000 is a tough pill to swallow, however, for those of us who have heavily modded and upgraded our cars think about how much money you have actually sunk into it. Suddenly that $13k doesn’t seem too unreasonable. But for a BRZ, you cannot add a turbo kit and expect the engine to last. But if you want your motor to make boost, do it with components brought to you by the pioneers of turbocharger performance, HKS.
Brembo Gran Turismo 6-Piston Front Brake Kit 2004-2017 STI $4395
Big brake kits are popular among the show car crowd as they look amazing behind a set of forged wheels. Yet for those of you with track-dedicated race cars, big brake kits are worth every red cent. Sure, STI brake calipers are capable. Afterall, they are supplied by Brembo themselves. Yet a big brake kit improves the braking efficiency especially during extreme heat which is a guarantee in racing. Increased braking power doesn’t hinge on how many pistons the caliper has. But rather the surface coverage between the pad and the rotor. A larger brake pad and a larger rotor is the trick, the caliper is the host. The larger the surface area, the longer it takes the heat to consume the rotor. Because of these reasons, race cars will always have larger brakes.
Volk Racing TE37 M Spec 19 x10.5 +35 5x112 A90 Supra $1122.44 Each
The TE-37 is one of the most coveted wheels in racing, as well as in modern car culture as a whole. The design of the TE-37 is a simple 6-spoke, and it is not your average busy-looking 3-piece wheel design. The TE-37 had been designed solely for purpose. That is to be wider to accompany a larger tire, and to clear big brakes. The most fascinating attribute of the TE-37 is the manufacturing process. With the most intricate of processes, the TE-37 is arguably one of the strongest forged wheel examples on the market, and that’s on period.
AMS Performance Alpha 8 GTX3582 Gen II Street Turbo Kit 2020-2024 A90 Toyota Supra $6,692.95
After the 2020 debut of the A90 Toyota Supra, there was one part disappointment and the other part curiosity as it had so much to live up to the previous model. Instead, we got a BMW. As complex and headache inducing as the B58 is to look at under the hood, you can’t deny that it makes power. AMS has been breaking records with several platforms including the R35 GTR, the Evo, and 911 turbo models. They don’t look for the formula, they are the formnula. For A90 models trying to keep up with 1000 HP MKIV Supras, this turbo kit changes the power dynamic from fast, to holy ****.
HKS GT2 Supercharger System w/ECU Package 2013-2021 BRZ/FR-S/86 $4100
Yes, you must build your motor when doing a turbo kit for the BRZ/FR-S/86. These cars weren’t meant for it and forced induction does go against the grain from the ‘spirit’ of the design. The key is everything in moderation. Also, responsibility is equally pivotal. With turbo kits, you just want more boost. Your right foot won’t shut up, suddenly you think you can race Camaro ZL-1s on the highway. Take it easy. But a little extra spice makes the driving experience of the BRZ a little more enjoyable. See with supercharger kits, you’re limited on boost because superchargers are belt-driven. This HKS supercharger kit will include everything needed for the installation, including more horsepower and torque.
Sparco SPX Carbon Fiber Seat w/Leather and Alcantara (Right Side) $3300
It’s common place to see a marriage between carbon fiber and leather in today’s modern supercars. A CEO of whatever corporation expects no less when going on date night in his Ferrambo. But if you’re a copywriter with a WRX, and if somehow your stars align and you feel like indulging, these seats will run you $6600 for a pair before taxes and shipping. A shiny carbon fiber shell is wrapped with leather and Alcantara to make sure your pinky stays raised when sipping your diet coke.
Greddy VOLTEX Rear Wing w/Side Mounts Wet Carbon 2022+ GR86 $2498.50
Pretty expensive for a rear wing yeah? But Greddy and Voltex are at the top of the food chain when it comes to highly decorated aftermarket performance companies. So, with this particular rear wing, you are getting what you are paying for. Greddy along with HKS, sit on the throne of the Japanese performance industry. You’re not paying for a knock-off. You are paying for decades worth of tireless research and development. The GR86 naturally comes with highly attractive body lines, and Toyota really executed a proper execution in terms of the evolution of the previous model. The Greddy Voltex rear wing with glossy carbon fiber really amplifies the appearance of the new GR86, but make no mistake, it has been designed to have a purpose while on track duty.
Tomei Expreme Ti Quad Exit Full Titanium Cat Back w/Burnt Tips 2009-2017 Nissan GTR
The R35 GTR is one of the last great turbo cars to come of of Japan in the last 15 years. This car put the ball on the tee of expectations and hit that ball over the par 5. Twin turbo V-6, all-wheel-drive, smooth daily drivability at 550 HP or 2000 HP, and yes, people have made that kind of power out of these. Now Nissan’s VQ engines have taken a few gut punches as of recent as the 350Z, and especially the wretched G35 have become so affordable that they have been choice cars for those who can’t wake up before noon. At any car meet you will see a G35 with a spare tire in the front, missing the bumpers wreaking of stacks of black ice car fresheners trying to cover 20 years of farts. That’s not the bad part, the bad part is said profiled owners with their straight piped hack jobs interrupt everyone’s peace and conversations. Biased as the writer of this article may be, the VQ in the GTR is a titan. Tomei never fails to impress with their Expreme Ti examples. JDM pie welds, full titanium construction, and the sound, no GTR owner will be disappointed with this investment.
Are these parts expensive? They sure are. Should you buy them? Absolutely. If you have enough fun coupons you are investing in components that have solid brands behind them. All of the mentioned brands above invest in the most advanced tools, machines, along with purchasing the makes and models so that they can test their products during R&D. Meaning that when you do make that big financial leap, you’re not looking back, and you’re not buying over and over again as soon as your cheaper version breaks. Do it right the first time, buy now and cry later. Tears of joy of course.
