An External Wastegate (EWG) allows exhaust gases to be diverted prior to entering the turbo; thus creating a quicker turbo spool. GrimmSpeed's EWG has a larger diameter than the stock internal wastegate; this allows the exhaust gas to be released faster, which improves boost control, maintains maximum boost longer in the rpm range, and extends the life of the turbo. Moving the wastegate out of the turbo relieves the turbo from the massive amounts of turbulence that the stock internal wastegate creates.

The EWG Up-Pipe is built from 304 SS with thick 12mm 304 SS flanges that will not warp. The flanges have been CNC cut for perfect tolerances(no laser cutting here!). A flex section has been added; this will extend the life of the product(allows expansion/contraction of pipe without cracking) and will lead to less exhaust leaks. Users should expect gains in the 15-40hp range when tuned for the EWG set-up.

Package Contents:
EWG Up Pipe
Dump Tube
5 Studs for Up Pipe
2 Bolts, Washers, & Nuts

This includes all the gaskets necessary for installation.

This uppipe is not suitable for RHD cars.

Awesome Grimmspeed quality

Grimmspeed did an awesome job with this product. They include all hardware and gaskets that you need which is just awesome! Install wasn't too bad, how the dump tube clears the transmission or downpipe depends on what angle the wastage itself is installed on the downpipe. No complaints, love it.

Beautiful piece

This thing is freaking gorgeous. It fits like a glove, the only issue being the added thickness from the coating around the v-band flanges. Grimmspeed, if you're reading this, mask them off during coating! Install was kind of a pain, but I expect this kind of stuff to be (and we Subaru enthusiasts are a special kind of masochist). Spool is quicker, the dump sounds amazing through my Tial MV-S 38mm EWG, and my tuner loves the improvement it made in boost control. Butt dyno feels like it picked up some power as well. Just remember to order some exhaust manifold gaskets because you'll need to pull that whole assembly down to do the install.

Great product not to hard to install but make sure you have enough clearance with the dump tube from the cv axle boot and can't stress it enough make sure you heat wrap the dump tube all In all install when smooth except for the dump tube burning a hole in the cv axle boot

Little extra edge

Solved boost creep once and for good. Inspected upon receiving and nothing was questionable at all. Did toss it in the sink and get all the grit out of it though.

08 STI not easy to install but worth it

This is LOUD but if your going to numbers this is for you on a scale 1-10 difficulty I'd say a 7/10 it's time consuming and you'll need some weird style tools to make your life easier, it's good fitment but everything is tight very tight.

  • AnswerQ: Cel  JNACE 2 months ago

Just ordered this and I'm due for inspection at the end of the month. I've heard this will cause a CEL. I have a 05 wrx with a divorced catless invidia v2 dp and a blitz nut spec r cat back. I am runnin a v3 access port with a stage 2 tune. I just need to know if I show wait till after I get it inspected to put it on. I'm not going to be using a EWG. I got a block of plate for now till I upgrade my turbo

    • A: If you install this uppipe, then you will have a check engine light for the EGT sensor. You can use a resistor in the EGT connector or use the Cobb AccessTuner to turn the code off. We cannot comment on emissions and we recommend checking your local laws for legality.

Will this accommodate a 38 mm wastegate and a 44mm wastegate?

    • A: This will only work with a 38mm/40mm wastegate, it will not work with a 44mm wastegate.

  • AnswerQ: Up pipe Gaskets  Wallybud76091 3 months ago

Are the gaskets included with the pipe the grimspeed double thick gaskets or just the normal ones? and are the double thick gaskets recommended over the ones included or are these fine?

    • A: The gaskets included are the standard thickness from Grimmspeed and work fine for most applications.

  • AnswerQ: 2 part question- 2009 sti  dubaru 5 months ago

part 1- Im looking at this setup with the tial mvs 38mm wastegate, will be installing with my e85 setup as well but on stock vf48, if I choose to upgrade to an 18-20g down the line after i build my block will I need to go with a different waste gate? or will this setup be sufficient still? And finally will this ewg setup be a nice complement to my stage 2+ e85 setup part 2- everyone seems to recommend going with the GS thicker gaskets (plural) as well, but the only thicker gasktet I seem to be able to find from grimspeed is the manifold to uppipe gasket, Is there also a thicker turbo to uppipe gasket I seem to be overlooking?

    • A: This setup would work fine for the 18-20g turbocharger. Grimmspeed does not have a double thickness uppipe to turbo gasket, but GRM 024001 is still a superior product over the majority of other gaskets on the market.

  • AnswerQ: 2012 WRX ewg setup  wellman9404836 5 months ago

2012 wrx. Would I need a 3 bolt or 2 bolt uppipe to go along with an invidia catless divorced wastegate downpipe? Running the 38mm tial mv-s wastegate.

    • A: The 2 bolt vs 3 bolt refers to the header to uppipe flange. If you have an aftermarket 3 bolt header you will need the 3 bolt uppipe, if you have a standard 2 bolt header a 2 bolt uppipe is needed.
