Saturday July 26th morning marked the second round of Lap Battle. Several drivers took the opportunity to show up early at the track and put some finishing touches on their vehicles before the race began. The event was split into two different run groups, Group 1 consisting of mild to moderately modified vehicles and group 2 consisting of heavily modified vehicles. The two groups alternated between 8, 30 minute sessions on the track, allowing everyone the max of 4 runs and up to 2 hours of track time. That’s a lot of track time for a mere $125!
The drivers meet took place around noon and the first run took place right after at 1. Group 2 took their first run at approximately 1:35. Except for a few minor mishaps, everything was going smoothly. Throughout the day, with the ambient temperature hovering in the high 90’s, it was apparent that the heat was taking a toll on tires causing slower lap times and less grip all around. Tires wasn’t the only thing that was taking a beating from the heat, some cars experienced overheating issues forcing the driver to pull off the track or to take a cool down lap.
The day concluded around 6 in the evening. The winners are judged by whoever gets the fastest lap time in their respected class. The FWD class winner was Jason Smith in an RSX with the best time of 1:44.906. Chris Neria took AWD class in an Evo with the best time of 1:42.150 and Joe Sims took RWD class in the Turbo Lab NSX with the time of 1:37.404. The Competition was close, in all the 3 classes. With the times of 1st and 2nd places in each class being separated by less then 1sec.
This was a great event. With a mix of race cars, and street cars.
