I purchased this key and had it cut @ my local Subaru dealership. I own a 2006 WRX and eventhough it says that it does not work with vehicles that are equipped w/ a smart key / chip anti-theft security device, there is a way to make it work. You will notice that your ignition will glow green and that means that your security system is on and will not allow you to use your STI key. Simply place your smart key (which you know has that chip in it) in the ignition and turn it, then you will notice that the green light will turn off. Now place your STI key in the ignition and place the back area of your chipped key into the ringed area that was once glowingt green while you turn the ignition. Now The car should turn on just fine and not shut off due to the security system. If the car shuts off, then you did it wrong. *NOTE* YOU WILL NEED TO CARRY YOUR SMART KEY WITH YOU @ ALL TIMES IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK. However, in my humble opinion, it's more of hassle than it really is worth / time consuming, but then again it does make you feel cool to use it, lol. All in all this is a great high quality product and I highly recommend it for any one looking for a cool little trinket to add to your vehicle. |
