The dog gears do not have the syncro on the collar to gently speed up the next gear; instead you get a direct gear-on-collar contact. With this type of engagement, grinding can and will occur if you try to "feather" the shift lever into gear. Shifting with force and speed will provide smooth, and very quick gear changes.
