Michael Heck - 03/01/2009 awesome fmic. the suface area is outrageous. the first comment i get is how big the core is. for 06 models, it gets rid of the windshield washer but thats no big deal. not that much cutting is required and fitment is simple. |
Nicholas Elzea - 03/01/2009 I like this intercooler, it definitely does the job at hand. I have a 52lb/min turbo and there is very minimal lag. Not to mention it doesn't even look like an intercooler if you do a good job of cutting the bumper. I recommend getting some quarter round rubber and putting that on the cut edge it makes it look much better. Keeping the stock fogs is a pretty big plus too considering how enormous this thing is. |
Peter Olaguez - 09/28/2008 I like it. Its got a very large surface area which is ideal for an air-to-air heat exchanger. I installed it on my 07 STi by myself and it took some time (8hrs). I wish the instructions made mention to the changes in the later model wrx/sti components. I got hung up on the quick disconnect fuel lines... who knew you needed a special cheap stupid peace of plastic to disconnect those (everyone but me of course). Trimming of the front bumper is necessary. I didn't bother with the stencils provided, I don't think they're for late model wrx/sti's, so I just hacked away at the front bumper. Oh, BE AWARE! Grinding/cutting of metal is REQUIRED for the 07 STi. I'm not sure if it's necessary on any other models but you will have to cut/grind away some protruding metal or else the intercooler will be forced up against it and the thin metal fins on the back side of the intercooler will be bent. Because the trimming of the front bumper and cutting of the metal would be necessary for any intercooler of this magnitude, overall the fitment is good. My intercooler was shipped with a little chip on the inlet of the intercooler however it was not performance inhibiting or noticeable once the silicone coupler was slid over it. I do not like the hose clamps provided because they seem to loosen if tightened too much and, once one blew off under boost. It could be my fault for being a little too BUFF* but who knows. I'm upgrading to t-clamps. I have the stock turbo and I'm peaking about 18psi so I do experience a little more lag when accelerating from low RPMs. Under hard acceleration, if I take a little too long during shifts, I drop off boost quickly and experience some lag. But this is normal for an intercooler of this size and the turbo running 18psi. My buddy is running 22psi and he doesn't experience this. I can't wait to get tuned to get some good air flow and pressure through this monster intercooler and put it to work. After all this blabbering, I would recommend this for any power enthusiast. P.S. The lower piping is polished and the upper piping (under hood) is red. |
Brody Hamblin - 12/22/2006 makes the front end of your car look good. Alot more airflow and really cleans up the engine bay. you can get the black core to give your car more of a "sleeper" look |
