Consider carefully which clutch is right for your car. First you need a clutch that will hold all the power, but not too excessive. For street use, you also need a long lasting clutch that has a positive feel, smooth engagement and quiet operation. For racing, you need a tough clutch that will enable quick shifts and hard slips all the way to the finish line.

The SB5-HDSS Includes the Following Components

SB-014 - Heavy Duty Pressure Plate - Clamp load increase of 32%, Pedal feels stock to moderate, SFI Certified to insure safety. Torque Capacity 420ft/lbs

3000502 - Performance Disc - Recommended for Street and Race, Quicker engagement, Quiet operation, best organic friction material, improved hub and burst strength.

Before having this kit installed in MY06 WRX I tried to read as much as I can about it-experiences of others who have already installed it in their car. What worried me most was the issue about the bundled release bearing. Chirping or other extraneous sounds supposedly related to it post install. To save myself that potential trouble, I ordered a OEM release bearing to replaced the bundled one. Fast forward to present, I have this kit installed and so far my car sounds normal. By that, I mean no sounds or noises coming from the clutch. Clutch feel is a little bit like stock but I can feel it grabs a bit more. Nice kit.

Torques
battlegorge 4 months ago
It couldn't handle the horse torques but that is wheel torque so I did go over its rating after about 2 weeks of driving with that power it now slips under boost I guess I expected it though

was good while it lasted

i have a 2014 WRX with a GTX3071r on e85 putting down about 450ftlb of torque to the wheels, ACT rates this clutch will hold up too 400ftlb at the crank! not the wheels! clutch only lasted at this power/torque level for two months, it was holding up well on my stock turbo e85 set up, but did not with the 30r. I would recommend this clutch for anyone staying around 350ftlb torque at the wheels anything more go for something different.

The worst investment i have ever made
subliminalforce 6 months ago
The pressure plate is too stiff for the shift fork, this will be my second time replacing this setup because it has severely bent and almost snapped the clutch fork to the point where I can't turn the car on. I have called ACT for compatibility issues and I was never given an answer, I think RSD should take this product off the shelve until proven compatibility and reliability. However, it fits and you can go about 6 months of daily driving! and the rest is history. You can start to feel the pedal get loose and then whining from the flywheel. And not just the regular flywheel sound, something wrong is happening. Im hoping to replace something that will have a warranty through the shop because this is ridiculous, and if it's being adverstised as a "superior" clutch system make the buyers aware of all the malfunctions prior to purchase.

So far I'm not happy with this purchase. I'll continue the break in period and update my review, however here is a video of the problem I'm most frustrated with at the moment.

  • AnswerQ: clutch break in  espino00336203 5 months ago

hi there, i just installed act hdss for 2014 wrx, im wondering how to break in this new clutch? thanks in advance.

    • A: Break in process for a new clutch will typically be 300-400 miles, with plenty of stop/go and keeping the RPMs under 3000k and NO LAUNCHES. Essentially, you want to focus on engaging/disengaging the clutch, during the 300-400 miles. Please note that freeway miles to do not count, and you will want it to be 300-400 miles of stopping/going and engaging/disengaging the clutch.

  • AnswerQ: Reliability   Santi 9 months ago

I am running a Cobb 20g on a 2008 WRX with fmic, catless TBE, and other goodies. I have an OEM Exedy clutch (lol I know) and it has started causing issues since I'm in the 380-420hp range. So, I was wondering if I could use this or should I go bigger? Because I do plan on doing engine work and shooting for a solid sub-500 goal. Probably around 480 or so.

    • A: Santi, If your car is a daily driver I would suggest running this kit. It will have a slightly stiffer pedal than stock with a nice drive-able solid engagement. Keep in mind ACT clutches are rated by torque at the crank and this kit will hold up to 420 ft/lbs of torque at the crank. For the SB5 kits, if you were to "go bigger" the difference would be to change from a street disc to a puck style disc which will hold more torque. The trade off for switching to a puck style disc is less modulation in the clutch pedal, etc. The clutch will engage like a light switch on/off and the longevity of the part will decrease with a puck style disc. • AnswerQ: Work with Clutch Master Flywheel (FW-021-SF)?  DHT090 1 year ago

My 2013 stock WRX, just smoked the clutch last night and I can't get the factory warrenty to cover it. So I was wondering if this kit is a good upgrade with good driveabilty, and will this clutch will work with clutch master lightweight fly wheel (FW-021-SF)? I do plan to upgrade the vehicle to be a part track and daily driver.

    • A: This is a great entry level aftermarket setup that is not overly aggressive and it will be similar to OEM driveability with a bit stiffer of a pedal feel. Unfortunately we cannot confirm fitment with other manufacturer's flywheels but if it is the same OEM size it should be adaptable.

  • AnswerQ: I broke my fly disk  andrewmjsinko 2 years ago

I have an 11 sti limited and on a launch last night, Im pretty sure I broke the disk. The burnt clutch smell is really bad and when I'm driving normally, the rpms will shoot from 3 to 6,7 out of no where and the smell returns. My question is, did my fly disk go on me? And can I order this part to replace it. I haven't done any kind of mods, so will this work, or should I go with an oem?

    • A: It sounds like you toasted your clutch and will need a replacement, This is a nice upgrade and will be able to handle more power when you do any sort of modification.
