2015 sti
Josh j. 3 months ago
This kart boy short shifter is amazing... It completely resolved all the gripes I had about the 2015 sti shifter and shifter feel. I first installed the front and rear bushing kit when I first got my car. Based on all the reviews it sounded like it was going to solve the problems I had with my shifter. I didn't decide to do the actual short shifter mod Bc I was concerned about pre mature wear on the syncros so I opted out. About 2 yrs later I finally decided to install the SS, and that was the final piece that completely changed the way everything feels... Not just the height and length of the throws. I always had a problem with second gear specifically. Shifting from 1st to second, it would feel like the shifter would slide into gear vs snick into gear about 30 percent of the time. I thought the bushing kit would fix that. I thought maybe there was something wrong with my transmission, Bc It did that since the day I drove off the showroom floor. After installing the SS, every gear, from 1st to 6th is a solid, notchy, snick snick. No lateral slop, just nice, clean snicks. Exactly what I was looking for. It was not a hard transition to get used to the length of the throws, Bc my previous car, which I had for 12yrs, had a SS that I installed as well. So if you want nice, clean, tight, notchy, snick snick shifting... Def install the bushings and the SS.

Best mod ever

Seriously, I comtemplated doing this for so much longer than I should have. It is the best mod I have done on any car I've owned. From here on out, I will always install a short shifter on every car I own. Five stars on the install because I paid someone to do it for me. Great choice on my part. Oh, and do the bushings too!!!!

Install wasn't too bad, I installed same time as I did the Cobb stiffer bushings and Perrin reverse lock out. Install wasn't bad. Just make sure you use the second zip tie underneath the car and move the reverse lockout cable away from the drive shaft. If not you will hear a ticking in 5 and 6 gear while driving. I tightened nice and snug. I placed bearing grease on the shifter where the Perrin reverse switch is, if not it won't slide back down to its original position. Also the shift knob will sit around an inch shorter. Feels great!

This is my 2nd Sti with the kartboy and it is just as awesome . I had it in my 06 and now in my 11 Sti . I think the feel in the 11 is way smoother not sure what's changed. Install was easy worth every penny .

  • Q: major difference between STi sts?  bst_lfe_sti 2 years ago

    Answer

I have a 2013 sti with the factory sts. I know this will change the height of the shifter but curious about the throws? The video didn't say if your sti had the sts or not. I'm doing my clutch next weekend and if this makes a substantial difference between the factory short throw then I'll probably buy it along with the bushings.

    • A: The factory short shifter reduces the throw by approximately 10% and this shifter reduces the throw by about 40%. This shifter will also lower the stock knob height by about 1 inch.

  • Q: Do I need new pivot bushings?  singletrackmind57575440 2 years ago

    Answer

I was looking up install guides and saw one on NASIOC posted by you guys for the 08 STI that recommended the use of TIC's 6 speed pivot bushing as the bushing that came with the Kartboy SS wouldn't fit the newer model STI's. Is this still an issue or have they updated their bushings to fit? (I have a 2010 STI)

    • A: This is confirmed for the OEM configuration as a direct drop in setup and the pivot bushing from TIC is not required but it would be beneficial.

Will the stock shift knob on an 05 STI work with this shifter? Thanks.

    • A: The stock shift knob can be used with this shifter.

  • Q: Slop.  nedimiiedin 2 years ago

    Answer

I have a decent amount of slop with my stock shifter (2005 STi). It was never firm to begin with when I purchased it a year ago. I have installed pivot bushings, and the front/rear kartboy bushings, and it is still decently sloppy. If I were to purchase this shifter, should it theoretically remove all the slop that I currently have? Thanks!

    • A: Investing in the actual shifter should help alleviate some of the slop or at least help reduce the actual throw distance over the OEM shifter. Primarily speaking, replacing the bushings in the best solution for removing slop from the shifter, which you have already done. Have a nice day.
