The OEM Subaru crank pulley has been a cause for concern ever since its original design. It is extremely heavy, susceptible to catastrophic failure, and quite unsightly. Continuing to use this on cars just wouldn't do. Eliminating rotational mass while maintaining a safe presence can increase reliability and bring faster Rev's! For this Lightweight Crank Pulley GrimmSpeed pulled out all of the stops. CNC machined from 6061 T6 Aluminum this pulley makes no compromise. It weighs in at 3.5lbs lighter than OEM while at the same time increasing its durability. Marked with a timing mark and perfect cut keyway makes this install a breeze. GrimmSpeed designed the pulley with the optimum weight for performance while avoiding misfire CEL's and engine hesitation.

Another excellent product from Grimmspeed. Fit and finish was quality as expected. The biggest difference I noticed after installing this product is my car seems to idle a bit smoother, and the engine reacts more readily to my throttle inputs when rev matching. Highly recommend this product.

Worth It

I've installed two of these now, one on a 2015 STI and the other a 09 LGT. There's a noticeable throttle response improvement. The higher RPM might rev a little quicker but that might be a mental thing as well. Overall it's a great buy and easy install, color looks pretty cool especially with the blue gates racing belts.

Great replacement for old OEM crank pulley

Grimmspeed's LWCP weighs approximately 2.3lbs whereas my stock Legacy GT pulley was over 5lbs (and falling apart)! I chose Grimmspeed's LWCP because it's not like all of the other LWCPs that are around 1.1-1.4lbs. I believe having a crank pulley that is too light can cause issues so I was pleased to see Grimmspeed offering a slightly heavier alternative. Not only does GS's LWCP look beautiful but it's remarkably well-designed and rev-matching while downshifting has become almost too easy. Grimmspeed is the best! 5 stars for sure!

I'm glad I got it

I always like to research when replacing OEM parts with aftermarket to make sure to weigh the pros and con's of each. I had to replace my stock pulley after it almost separated on me into two pieces! This pulley brought only good things, even something I didn't expect. First off it looks awesome and feels quality and precisely made. The key lined up perfect and the pulley spins smooth. Just idling my motor runs smoother. Before especially when having ac on, I could feel vibrations in the cabin which I attributed to having the poly pitch mount and Group N engine and transmission mounts. The pulley helped a lot with the vibrations! Another thing that bothered me with my Subaru is how it always felt like it would bog almost stall if you didn't feather the throttle from a take off. Felt like I was in 2nd gear not 1st if that makes sense. Also these drivetrains are really unforgiving when you don't match the revs when upshifting or downshifting. You will usually feel everything bounce around and it's not pleasant! The pulley significantly improved the smoothness of the shifts which was a nice surprise to me. I think that's my favorite feature of it, being able to dive the car smoother when upshifting and downshifting while also reducing NVH. I installed it with the Mishimoto radiator and stock fans in place. It's possible and quick if you know what you are doing. Another good product from Grimmspeed!

Well worth the add

This crank should be added to your things to do for your car. I am very happy with install and the car response way better than the OEM crank. Its a must for any subaru!

  • AnswerQ: Install Question  AC 9 days ago

If I'm having the local Subaru shop install this for me, what parts do I need other than the Gates belt? Do I need the GS install tool, GS/Gates stretch adapter, or Gates Stretch Install tool? Thank you.

    • A: You will need the following to complete the job: GAT 91031, GRM 095012 and GRM 095011.

  • AnswerQ: pulley  cruz 2 months ago

does this replace the underdrive pulley?

    • A: If your vehicle has an underdrive pulley kit this would replace one of the pulleys. Typically this would not work with your setup since underdrive pulley kits use different sized belt and accessory pulleys so nothing would match up from that kit to this OEM sized pulley.

  • AnswerQ: grimm speed pulley   daveymcfarland12211 5 months ago

do you think it will effect anything negatively if i installed this on my 02 impreza 2.5ts that also already has a 12lb flywheel? i have one off of my other car and i want to install it if i will just get better response but i dont want to hurt anything cause i just did all new gaskets and timing to this engine two days ago and put in a stage 3 clutc with light weight flywheel

    • A: Installing both a lightweight pulley and flywheel will not hurt the vehicle, but sometimes a check engine light can come up from the crank being too light and the crank sensor not being able to read. Typically we recommend sticking with either a lightweight flywheel or pulley, but not both.

  • AnswerQ: crank pulley bolt   hella flush is hella stupid 1 year ago

I see you guys just put the crank bolt in and torqued it on the install vid. The service manual says to put oil on the cap and the threads of the bolt, then torque it down. It mentions two stages of torque and a tolerance of 45 degrees for the bolt. Why is this procedure so complicated in the fsm, and is it necessary to follow these steps with the lightweight pulley?

    • A: We recommend following Grimmspeed's instruction manual which is found below. They do not mention two stages of torquing or oiling the cap. http://www.grimmspeed.com/content/install_guides/SubaruCrankPulley.pdf

  • AnswerQ: Harmonics?  MrFreeze 1 year ago

How do these pulleys effect the harmonics of the motor?

    • A: The stock crank pulley is not a harmonic balancer and lightweight Subaru crank pulleys do not have any negative effects on engine harmonics.
