Should be called the Jigsaws

Do you want to play a game? Well apparently you will if you by these. I guess you get lucky or you don't...... I got these because I heard good reviews (on top of the bad) and decided to gamble on my chances since I'm budgeting a side build and these are on the cheap side. Install was just as you'd expect slipped right in and fit as they should. All set and ready to go, I cycle these pups in and I'm not disappointed with the stopping power. Nice strong hold, as close to OEM as I think you can get. At this point I'm pretty satisfied, but the more and more I drive, the more I want drive my Subie into a ditch. The noise that comes from these can only be discribed as that of the screams from the pits of hell being jammed into your ears with a screw driver. I am in total disbelief with how loud these are. At high speed or hard breaking the are fine no noise (good stopping power too) but go below 40 or drive in the city and you'll be sinking into your seat wishing you were invisible. The looks and scouls people give you in disgust from your crying breaks. I have 600+ mile on these and have cycled these things in twice. I have already gone to an auto store to order just regular OEM compost break pads, I literally don't want to dive my car in public it is that bad. Oh and the break dust is about the same as OEM but I guess that's expected. Buy at your own risk

Too noisy - Shouldn't be called "Street" pads
Papagiorgio 4 months ago
I bought these from RSD in the Stoptech Sport Kit, which included Stoptech slotted rotors, Street Performance brake pads, and the Stoptech steel brake lines. Unfortunately even after ~1000 miles with these pads, they still squeal loudly on every stop at low speed, even when they're up to temperature. I emailed Stoptech customer service about this and they basically said "this is a high temperature performance pad, you shouldn't use these for daily driving." They should really not have "Street" in the name if you can't use them on the street without making pedestrians' ears bleed. Definitely not recommended.

I'm stopping!

I thought the pads were cheap and most likely would not work well as the more expensive brands / types. Overall no problem stopping and no noticeable brake fade during hard braking. Also noticed, was the brake dust is about the same as factory pads on my '12 STI and no noise while braking. These pads are a good choice if you're looking for a cheap quality brake pad, but still want the performance of the more expensive name brands.

Great Pads, great street life
Edwinmulhern71379 6 months ago
Have had two sets of these brakes. Great stopping power. Initial braking is messy and your wheels will be filthy. After that they do produce more brake dust than stock pads, but the difference in stopping power is worth it. I will run these pads until i decide to start tracking my car. I drive extremely spirited and they have done there job beyond my expectation. They lasted me about 25k running stop tech rotors.(basics)

Squeak no matter what you do
tylertc 11 months ago
It takes a lot for me to truly dislike something. So many of the posts / reviews you read you have to take into account the person and their situation / skill level. I'm no expert, but have done brakes plenty of times. These were bedded in correctly according StopTech, have not been driven on aggressively, or had any track days. I'm located in VA. These pads definitely work, they have a decent initial bite. But they squeak and are extremely ...extremely annoying. There are only so many things that you can do to help avoid the backing plate or contact surface from vibrating so much so that you get the annoying squeak. I've done just about all of them that I can think of. Installed - thought squeak would go away (it's constant but not constant...and only occurs at low speeds for me). Bedded brakes (according to StopTech)....still squeaking Took brakes off cleaned caliper sliders and lightly greased caliper sliders, and the back of the brake pads with the appropriate Brake Quiet gel etc....still sqeaking. Purchased the Posi-Quiet pads....no squeaking but I didn't like the way they felt. Left these on for several weeks....still no squeaking. Put back on StopTech pads - resurfaced rotors for the hell of it because I have access to the equipment....still squeaking. It doesn't stop, comes at the most annoying times (stop lights, parking lots, your driveway) anytime you're under 10mph really. It may not be immediate when you first get the pads....but give it time. I am confident it will start. Going to look at getting the Hawk Pads after my roommate gets his in. C

  • AnswerQ: Do these fit Brembo big brake kit?  StonerSTiGuy07 2 months ago

I have Drilled and Slotted Rotors with the Brembo calipers they are noticeably bigger than stock. Will these still work?

    • A: These will fit OEM STI Brembos. If you have a larger Brembo kit, you will need pads specific to your exact calipers.

  • AnswerQ: break in process  korruptt187 8 months ago

    what is the bedding process?

    • A: Stoptech's bed-in process for the Street Performance pad is as follows. "For a typical performance brake system using street-performance pads, a series of ten partial braking events, from 60mph down to 10mph, will typically raise the temperature of the brake components sufficiently to be considered one bed-in set. Each of the ten partial braking events should achieve moderate-to-high deceleration (about 80 to 90% of the deceleration required to lock up the brakes and/or to engage the ABS), and they should be made one after the other, without allowing the brakes to cool in between. Depending on the make-up of the pad material, the brake friction will seem to gain slightly in performance, and will then lose or fade somewhat by around the fifth stop (also about the time that a friction smell will be detectable in the passenger compartment). This does not indicate that the brakes are bedded-in. This phenomenon is known as a green fade, as it is characteristic of immature or ‘green' pads, in which the resins still need to be driven out of the pad material, at the point where the pads meet the rotors. In this circumstance, the upper temperature limit of the friction material will not yet have been reached. As when bedding-in any set of brakes, care should be taken regarding the longer stopping distance necessary with incompletely bedded pads. This first set of stops in the bed-in process is only complete when all ten stops have been performed - not before. The system should then be allowed to cool, by driving the vehicle at the highest safe speed for the circumstances, without bringing it to a complete stop with the brakes still applied. After cooling the vehicle, a second set of ten partial braking events should be performed, followed by another cooling exercise. In some situations, a third set is beneficial, but two are normally sufficient."

  • AnswerQ: pad thickness  ema28607851 1 year ago

How low (in mm or 1/16) can I let these pads get before replacing them? how thick are they stock? I bought them, I just want to know when to replace them.

    • A: It is generally recommended to replace brake pads once the compound gets to 3/32. Stoptech does not publish the compound thickness, but they will be similar to stock.

  • AnswerQ: Life  mortalpl199065554 1 year ago

How long is the pad life in a DD application.

    • A: Life will be a bit less than OEM, but depending on use and the rotor this can be even worse.
